Wi-Fi Connected, but no internet access

Able to see/authenticate and connect to network at work which is using WPA-PSK. iPad shows connected/steady connection and has been assigned IP address. However, unable to connect to Internet, acts like not actually connected to internet. Tried my iPhone and it exhibits the same issue.

Saw a few like issues posted here, but indicated fixes did not work, i.e., reboot router and iPad.

Thanks

Kris

I ahve the same basic problems, and was following the steps in your first post. I discovered that I do have a firewall problem, but, when I got to the step 1) Open "Finder" and hold "cmd"+"shift"+"G" to open the "Go to the folder:" dialogue and type in the following strings or copy paste: /private/var/log/appfirewall.log, I ran into a roadblock. My computer says that this log doesn't exist. I then searched just for "appfirewall.log" in spotlight, and it came up with nothing. It's clear that you really know what you're doing--what's my problem, please?

Thanks!

You have to enable root user to get permission.

HOW TO ENABLE ROOT USER

1. Click "Macintosh HD"

2. Click "System" Folder

3.Click "Library" Folder

4.Click "CoreServices" Folder

5.Double Click "Directory Utility" to open

6.Click the "Padlock" (if asked for password, please enter it)

7.Go to the menu bar and click "Edit"

8.Select "Enable Root User" (a dialog requesting password input will show)

9. Enter a password for the root user and hit OK!

LOG IN AS ROOT USER

1. Open "Terminal"

2. type in "login root" (without quotes) and hit enter

3. type in password you gave to the root user account

if succesful the terminal should display ": ~ root# " which means you are logged in as the root user then try "stage 2b" again.

log out when you are done

Type: "exit" and hit enter and close the terminal window.

Thanks

Hope this helps. Please let me know if it helps. Thanks and sorry for the delay...

No problem, lets try this. it must be a DHCP problem.

1. Open "Network Preferences"

2. Click on "Assist me..."

3. Click on "Assistant..."

4. Select "Ethernet" and click on "continue"

afterwards make sure you have a network diagnostic report like the image below:

User uploaded file

finally quit your browser and restart your browser and try browsing...

I don't exactly know how to include images to this reply else it would be much easier to show you. Ok so, the result returned with "You cannot connect to your Ethernet network automatically, so you need to enter information to set up connection. If you don't know this information, please contact your network administrator". It asked me to enter IP address, Subnet Mask, Router Address and DNS Host. I tried inputting the figure that I told you earlier and clicked Continue to which I get a reply "The IP address and the router address are nt consistent with the subnet mask you entered".

1. To add images you'll need a screen capture software. on mac it's called "Grab", check your applications folder should be there...

2. To add images in the forum windows just click the "insert image" button (the camera on the text editor bar)

no problem lets just reset the network confuguration settings and see if it will automatically reset the network configuration to factory settings...

1. Open Finder...

2. Press "cmd+shift+G" - a search dialog should pop up

3. copy and paste this in without the quotes " /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist " and click "Go"

4. Add .bak to the preferences.plist - should be like this:- preferences.plist.bak. Accept to save the file with the .bak extension.

5. Restart your computer and wait for everything to load properly, then try browsing.....

Get back to me with your results....if it doesn't work we will try another method...

Don't worry we will sort it out....

I'm using my iPhone to reply, ergo I can't include images.

Anyway, I tried the cmd+shift+G and inputting the string that you told me to but I was stopped saying I don't have the permission to view the content. So based on what you taught me previously, I tried logging on as a root user in Terminal but to no avail. It says my login was incorrect. Wot's next ?

Thank you for your patience. Hope it won't run thin lol.
