Keeping iPad in a truck all day

I have posted this question before and gotten some good advice but I was wondering if I got a cooler and got a gel pack or one of those things you put in the freezer and it freezes and wrapped it in a towel and put the ipad in one of those bags that you get in front of the frozen food that you put ice cream in to make it not melt in the grocery store and put it in the cooler as well, does anyone think that would work?

Ok well that took care of the cooler trick 😟 Does anyone else have any suggestions as to some way ata ll I could keep it cool in my truck all day? Im a landscaper and have the perfect app that I could use in my line of work and Id love to be able to have it in my truck but I know I have to keep it cool in the summer heat so if anyone has any suggestions at al I would really appreciate it.

Why not try an experiment before you get an iPad and find that you can't use it the way you would like.

I suggest getting a thermometer and an insulated bag/sleeve. Put the thermometer in the bag, out of the sun, in the truck, and after it has been there for most of the day, check to see what the temperature is. If it registers high, then you know the iPad won't work.

Also bear in mind that an iPad in the sun will heat up very quickly because of the black screen.

Hi Tommy,

Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think that as long as you don't leave it in the direct sun in the truck, then even though it will get hot and won't work, the heat won't really hurt it. But I don't know how long it will take to cool down from, say, the 100 degrees of a closed truck. But I wouldn't think that 100 degrees would do any permanent damage. But again, I may be totally wrong here.

Also, I do think you could put the iPad in the cooler. Just don't let it get too cold. Put the iPad in a zip lock freezer bag and seal it with as much air as possible out of the bag. When you want to use it, take it out of the cooler and leave it sealed in the bag until it's not cool anymore. That shouldn't take too long. Then you can take it out of the bag and there'll be no condensation problem. Heck, who knows? Maybe you can even use it while it's still in the bag. I know some bags allow it. I just don't have one of those thick freezer bags to check it out. It's worth a try.

What about trying an experiment where you put a thermometer inside an empty cooler, and see how hot it gets. I'm wondering if the insulating properties of the cooler would keep the internal temp moderate, even without ice. Maybe it could act as a tool to take the extra edge off the heat, while not making your iPad too cold, either.

I feel certain that there is a way to make it work, somehow!

I would think this might work for you. User uploaded file

Hey. I've lived for years in very hot weathers and also work most of the day in the field. Although I've not subject my iPad to that treatment yet, I suspect it would behave similarly to other electronic equipment (such as computers and digital cameras) that I do take to the field with me.

What have worked for me......I keep all of them out of direct sunlight, and whenever possible, inside a case or bag. Never in many years doing this have I had any electronic fail on me.

Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps!!!

A small six pack cooler with nothing in it but the iPad should be good enough insulation from the heat of a car.

With going into to much detail:
Years ago I used to have to pack very large telescopes with sensitive electronic. We would pack some of the equipment in cooler. Optics can take several hour to thermally cool to the right temp before we could use them. Coolers did protect the equipment from the ambient heat in the van.

Placing something cold in a cooler would be counter productive, it would cause more harm than good for the iPad. Pulling the iPad from a cooled ice chest would cause condensation inside the iPad. The iPad might not die today. But over time it will.
