Burning Large files across multiple DVD's / CD's

Is their a way to burn large files across multiple CD's in such a manner as when they are read the end of the first disk would prompt the removal of it and +'Insert Disk 2'+
Or is such a process beyond Snow Leopard and requring more software? If so any freeware suggestions?

MacBook 2,1, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Actually I don't think that is helpful and I should have been more specific. In this case I have downloaded Windows 7 an 8 gig application from the net. I want to store it on two DVD RW's. I did not want to just randomly split out the folders as I may need to re-install at some point using Parallels 5 to install - in which case it need to be self-continuing as once Parallels launches the install the .exe will attempt to extract files from folders in a particular order...ergo they need to be accessible.
