iPad (WiFi 16GB) won't find my location (when my iPod touch does)

I have a strange problem I don't quite understand.

I bought my iPad 16GB WiFi (OS 3.2)two weeks ago and used it in different networks and it worked perfectly fine. Now I have come back to my apartment and ever since the iPad is unable to find my location (and the option is not switched off).

Maps won't find my current location, the same with all the apps that use it..

Taking my iPad to another WiFi (work, college) solves the problem. So I was inclined to think it has something to do with my network.

However my iPod Touch 16GB 2nd Gen. works perfectly fine in my private WiFi network and the locations work as well.

So what is the problem here?
Any suggestions or solution?

Thanks in advance

Yes it is so Strange. Must Be in the OS Software. Besides: i had downloaded a VPN Client for a University WiFI that worked with OS 3.1.3 and 3.2 in the iPad. However the iOS4 Version does Not work anymore. so i guess People mit encounter Problems and Somerset VPN Clients need to Be rewritten.

However now neither my iPod nor my ipad work can get the Location in my Home WiFI and the iPod does Not work wen i am at work .... That pretty much reduces the usability to Zero for me : (

It's not the compass function it's the entire location based services.

And for whatever reason it worked for some days and then i took my ipad to another wifi for 2 days and when i returned it to my home home wifi, the location could not be found again..... that really ***** especially now that my iOS4 iPod can't find the location any longer as well.

I have a WIFI Ipad and the location services used to work but now it just turns up " your location could not be determined.". it is annoying and I have tried all the settings with switching location services on and off. i wonder if it is caused by the loading of other map and location based apps ?Star walk and solar walk ?-frustrating-be graet if solution could be found

Here is the answer - just spoke with Apple and it works! Push and hold simultaneously the on/off power switch at the corner of the IPad2 and the button next to the screen. The Apple icon will appear. Once the normal screen appears click "slide to unlock". Then Settings>General>Reset>Reset Location Warnings>Reset. Apple said that they see this often especially when the IPad has not been completely shutdown for awhile. To do a complete shutdown:

  • Begin by locating the iPad's hold button. This button is on the top right-hand corner of the iPad.
  • Press the hold button for a few seconds, until a red slider appears at the top of the screen that says "slide to power off."
  • Slide it to the right. (If you don't want to shut it down, tap the "cancel" button at the bottom of the screen.)
  • You'll see a small wheel and then the screen will go dim. The iPad is now shut off.

To turn the iPad back on, just press the hold button until the screen lights up and the Apple logo appears. Then let the button go and the iPad will boot up.

I have what may be an odd twist on this situation. Location services were working properly if I used an app like Google Maps or Yelp, but not working when I tried to to use a map in Safari, like local.google.com. I'd get the message "Google Maps is unable to determine your location." Location services were turned on for Google, and restarting my iPad didn't help.

I finally figured out that the error message was misleading -- it was actually Safari that couldn't determine my location. I turned on location services for Safari and all is well. Maybe this will save someone else some time.
