What is the best OS IMac G5 can handle?

I have an Imac G5 (not isight)and I'm still using OSX 10.3.9. It's finally starting to get annoying.

What is the newest/best OS it can handle?
how much might this cost me?
anything else I should know before I upgrade?

Thanks for any info you can give me!

You can install Leopard (not Snow Leopard), look on Craig's list or eBay, but make sure you get the RETAIL version, which is black and has a big X on it, don't buy the grey install versions, they won't work. You can try the Apple tore, but I am not sure if they still sell it. You will have to pay a premium for it, but I can;t give you exact figures, Google it.

Clean up your apps, get rid of anything you don't use before you upgrade, and make sure you have all your serial numbers etc for the new install. You can use Migration Assistant which sould bring just bout everything over.

Good Luck,

You can run Leopard. Leopard System Requirements (you won't be able to go beyond Leopard.)

But more RAM is better, at least 1 GB.

Cheapest source for Leopard is Apple Phone Sales at original price $129. 1-800-692-7753. If first rep says they don't have it, ask to speak to a Product Specialist.

Upgrade using Archive & Install.

EDIT I'd be wary of using Migration Assistant. Even if you clean things up before using, you may not get everything and it may bring some incompatible stuff over. Can then be a mess to clean up. Anyway MA is used to move one from computer (or could be from a clone) to another. I don't know if you have a clone.
