iOS4 settings crash

Hello,

I updated my iPhone 3G recently to the golden master version of iOS4, and I noticed a reproducable problem: When going to Settings > General the Settings app crashes and I am returned to the springboard.

I think this problem might be caused by having an iPhone OS3 compatible .mobileconfig loaded.

Is there anyone who experienced this problem and found a way to fix it or is there any way to remove the .mobileconfig when I can't reach General Settings?

Same here! Everytime I hit General (in Settings) it takes about 5-10 sec's and I'm back at the springboard.
I had the same kind of issues when updating to OS 3, back then I had same special setting to get Tethering working. When I restored from DFU and as a new iPhone it worked but I had to do all the settings again.
I don't want to do this again! Isn't there a way to reset those Tethering profiles?

Okay, after upgrading to iOS 4 and not being able to use my exchange accounts, I messed around for several hours trying to remove the existing mail accounts. Here are the steps that I did to solve the problem that everyone here seems to be reporting:

1. Plug your iPhone into the computer where you have it synced with iTunes.
2. Do a hard reset by continuously pressing home and power buttons together until the phone screen goes blank (past the power down slider). Let go when you see the Apple logo.
3. Let the phone finish rebooting.
4. Go into mail settings and completely remove all existing exchange mail accounts.
5. Go to your passcode settings under general and completely remove the passcode from the phone.
6. Go back to mail settings and re-enter the pertinent information to connect to your exchange mail account.
7. Once done, go back to home screen and try to go into mail.
8. The phone should prompt you to pick a new passcode.

After doing this, my phone is good to go now.

Hope this helps,

I'm in the same situation like everybody else here.

I tried following your advice, but the second I attempt to select the Exchange account from the mail settings, the app is crashing.

Just in case an Apple dev is reading this thread, I am pasting some of the debug info I could pull out using the "iPhone Configuration Utility". This happens when I select Settings/General:

Tue Jun 22 20:46:46 cooperPhone Preferences[239] <Warning>: MC|Profile MCConfigurationProfile 0x19d600, version 1:

When I try to access one of my existent Exchange mail account (which is actually disabled) from Mail Settings (to erase it), no sensible log comes out, just this:

From the crash logs, it seems like these crashes are related to a bad configuration profile. To everyone who's experiencing the crashing: have you installed a configuration profile at some point, using iPhone Configuration Utility?

I tried to re-install the profile using the configuration utility, but it also caused a crash on the phone, after displaying the following warning:

profiled[602] <Warning>: MC|Removing orphaned profiles...
profiled[602] <Warning>: MC|Profile MCConfigurationProfile 0x114a60 has no friendly name.

Does anyone know of another way to remove or reset the configuration profiles?

Yes, it's definitely an issue with configuration profiles. Interestingly however, I have the same configuration profile installed on my 3Gs iOS 4 with no crash. But the same profile crashes my 3G iOS 4. I tried numerous things with iphone configuration utility 2.2 with no success. always get the same error:

<Warning>: MC|Profile MCConfigurationProfile 0x114c90 has no friendly name.
