iPad Safari crashing regularly

Safari on my iPad is crashing fairly frequently; sometimes when I restart it retains the pages that were previously open, and sometimes not.

Have not yet established a pattern, but it seems prevalent on very large pages (for example pages with many images) and on pages with embedded video (particularly Flash).

Anyone else experiencing the same issue and/or have any further information? Anybody using a browser other than Safari on the iPad?

Mac OS X (10.5.1)

OK. But bug reports occasionally have workarounds. If this was a bug event caused by a upgrade from one OS vesion to another (as was the case with a large number of these cases), you need to contact apple for help determining workarounds. I find going in person to be better, but you can call over the phone.

They will not charge you if it is an unresolvable bug report. They will only charge you $30 if they resolve your issue. If you have a warranty, it is covered. (Applecare or applecare plus)

They do not charge for genius bar appointments. Offer to check it in for service if they cannot resolve the issue same day.

Btw, I mean a workaround that completely solves the issue. Disabling javascript obviously is a troubleshooting measure.

Philly, some of us live in the boonies without access to an Apple Store. I live in Nova Scotia and the closest Apple store is in Montreal. OK?

Well, it's certainly OK with me but don't go whining that "Apple's got to fix this but I live in the boonies and I can't take the iPad for Apple to investigate." You expect Apple to mail you some fairy dust to fix the problem?

Software updates that update the kernel can in fact need to be serviced, if a DFU restore doesn't fix the issue. Updates to an operating system on any device can go bad sometimes. Software updates modify the kernel (or re-image it to be precise. It could have done an incomplete sync. (I noticed ios 5 says it's finished restoring before it transfers the media over.) If you do not live within range of an Apple store, please call Applecare for resolution, mail to an apple authorized service provider like iresq.

It may actually be the flash memory in your ipad has bad sectors, or a number of other causes, that turning off Javascript happens to solve.

I can't believe that they haven't fixed this thing even after a year of people complaining. I have a new Ipad2 that I got in dec 2011 and my safari crashes a dozen times in an hour. Every time I visit google news or huffington post, the page starts loading and crashes when I click something on it. Do apple engineers really test this thing properly? As noted by Many others, this happens on large pages with lot of graphics (like google news and huffington post). Unfortunately for me, my main reason for using safari is to browse news sites and it's not working for w
