Completely dead ipad - will not charge

Hope someone can offer suggestions

this is a 64MB wifi ipad I have had since 30th April. I love it and it has been excellent until today.

I had used it yesterday evening and it still had 55% showing on the battery - so it was just switched off overnight and left (no wifi running there is no signal where I am as we are away from home in our motorhome and I only charge it when it drops to 20%). Now it has been being charged bias it's mains lead via an inverter

When I looked this morning it was dead - I thought it odd but plugged it in to charge - only there was not the usual start up just nothing. And nothing still later

as I not home I do not have access to a mains socket or my computer

any thoughts would be appreciated

Hi,

Try pressing SLEEP/WAKE button and HOME button *at the same time* to force it restart for 2 or 3 times and see if it can turn on. Sometime it's just turn off by itself (happens more frequently for me esp when the battery is low) and we have to force it to start again.

Hope this helps,

I have an original ipad (about 2 years old) and the home button stopped working about 6 months ago. Apparently its another common problem but I got around it by enabling the virtual home button directly on the screen. BUT now that my ipad also suddently won't power on, I can't tried the two button trick since my home button doesn't work. Any other work around or ideas or am I just screwed? It was working totally fine earlier today.

I can breathe again! Same thing here. Left it for five minutes -- dead. 91% battery. First thing I did was to try holding the two buttons but apparently not long enough. You have to do it for at least 10-15 seconds and it will come back. I did connect it to my laptop and opened iTunes -- could see it there and the last backup. Also opened iPhoto and it opened up the photos from the iPad. So, I knew it was still alive somehow. I also opened my router admin and saw that it was still recognized on my home network. Weird. It seems that it becomes half alive when this happens. Anyway, I'm just so relieved. Amazing what an impact NOT having my iPad would have on my life. Kinda sad, too, I guess. ;)

My 18-month-old Ipad3 had 80% charge this morning. It went dead when I plugged it into its charger.

It remained plugged into the charger all day but nothing would revive it.

I then Held down the Start/Sleep button while pressing the Home button for 10 seconds.

I immediately saw the white Apple icon on a black background and it slowly came

back to life with a charge of 74% !!

My PC laptop was already running DiskAid so when it completed bootup I connected

the ipad to it to back up my data. A sales clerk told me when this happened to

his iPhone he revived it by connecting it to his PC. That didn't work for me.

Since this problem has existed over years and multiple generations of iPads,

why does it seem Apple has still not fixed this? Don't they read this and care?

If I were CEO seeing the public support forum for my product citing

solutions that involved non iOS platforms would be anathema to me.

Shall we remind that the reliability found in windows boxes comes to the

customer at half the cost of an AAPL product?

My Ipad 3, was completely dead, when I attached the charger to the connector pin it showed a battery symbol with red and a lightning bolt for a few seconds, then the screen is black again. I left the cable attached from the wall outlet to the Ipad for 30 mins. Nothing happened, then I tried the home and power botton reset command, my screen slightly flashed and showed the battery symbol with red, then I decided to plug the Ipad cable to my laptop usb to see if the itunes program would open up (i wasn't sure if my Ipad connector pin was the problem or the something else) and it didnt do anything for about 3 mins, then the apple symbol came on my Ipad screen and my Ipad showed 1% charge, the itunes program popped up on my computer at that point, and even though it is connected to my charger cable it says on the top corner "Not Charging", its been plugged in for 20 mins, and the battery is slowly increasing barely at 6%, but it still says it's "Not Charging". I recently updated my Ipad 3 with the new ios7 system and have had it for about 3 weeks now, I have had my Ipad for over 9 months and never had an issue with it before, but I read that the new system requires an official Apple 10-12w charger in order to charge the Ipad because of the increase power the new system uses. Anyways, I don't have that but it's appears to slowly, but surely be charging. I hope this helps someone else going through the same problem.

Yep, exactly the same thing happened to me with my less than a week old iPad Air (with a 100% battery charge) - dead as a rock just then. So I did what most people here did, after a Google search on "dead iPad", held the power and home buttons simultaneously for ten seconds. The Apple logo came on for a few seconds and then PIN prompt. Not happy at all. 😠

OK, I may have an answer for why my iPad Air freezes ... yes, plural because it's happened about once a day now for the last week. I bought an after market Bluetooth keyboard and folio for $29 from a chinese supplier on eBay. Why ? Because there was nothing available for the iPad Air at Apple or any other reputable supplier and I refuse to use the iPad keyboard.

So, to the point: if I switch on the keyboard before I switch on the iPad, the iPad gets all confused and freezes completelly ... and I have to do the 10 second reset with the home and power button to recover. However, if I switch on the iPad first and "log in" and the keyboard after this all is well.

My sister was here from overseas for a visit 12 months ago, with a brand new iPhone 4S in her pocket. It too died and we took it to the Apple store. They couldn't do anything with it and told her to take it back to where she bought it. When we came back home we tried plugging it into her Windows PC - nothing. Then we plugged it into my Apple MBP and hey presto ... after a few minutes. *** !?!?

HELPPPPPPPPPPPP ANYONE!!!!!! My ipad mine just died overnight, I was using it before I went to bed, it was 55% and charging. I woke up the next morning and it was completely off....DEAD I tried all the usual tricks, holding the sleep and home button, trying another USB cable, another charger, tried to get it to start in iTunes, it's not even recognized by the computer, neither apple or windows. I finally took it to the Apple Genius? Bar and they didn't do anything but try another cable and said that's was all the troubleshooting that they could do. It's under warranty so I can get it replaced but I have over 100 pics from a wedding and my Christmas Party last weekend which are not backed up on itunes or iCloud 😟

Reluctantly I left the apple store in search for help to get my ipad on and recover my data before I swap it out. I had read many similar post of people getting their ipad to restart but I'm having no luck. It won't charge, it wont turn on, it won't register on USB or itunes. I just want to drop it off the roof and see if that will help ANY SUGGESTIONS!!! Someone please reply ASAP

THANKS

Hello,

So I'm having a terrible time with my ipad mini. This is the THIRD.. yes I said THIRD, ipad mini that has died on me within 4 months. I have similar stories to others, I charge it in the wall, and when I come back it won't turn on. I've trouble shooted EVERYTHING and nothing has worked for me. I've plugged it into the wall and left it for 20 mins, Ive held down the home and sleep button, it doesn't come up in itunes.

As you can probbaly guess I'm very annoyed and want to throw it out the window! No one has really told me WHAT was wrong they only replaced it.

The only thing I can think of is that it's an app on my ipad mini that is causing the problem. Has anyone encountered this problem and if so help a brother out!

Thank you.

Our iPad mini was fully charged. It became very cold in the winter storm, while near an outside window.

I moved it to a warm location and used to homee + on buttons to wake it up.

Fortunately while traveling, we have iPhones and another iPad to use to access this forum to obtain a solution.

What a relief to not haul around two heavy laptops while traveling.
