Completely dead ipad - will not charge

Hope someone can offer suggestions

this is a 64MB wifi ipad I have had since 30th April. I love it and it has been excellent until today.

I had used it yesterday evening and it still had 55% showing on the battery - so it was just switched off overnight and left (no wifi running there is no signal where I am as we are away from home in our motorhome and I only charge it when it drops to 20%). Now it has been being charged bias it's mains lead via an inverter

When I looked this morning it was dead - I thought it odd but plugged it in to charge - only there was not the usual start up just nothing. And nothing still later

as I not home I do not have access to a mains socket or my computer

any thoughts would be appreciated

Hi,

Try pressing SLEEP/WAKE button and HOME button *at the same time* to force it restart for 2 or 3 times and see if it can turn on. Sometime it's just turn off by itself (happens more frequently for me esp when the battery is low) and we have to force it to start again.

Hope this helps,

My iPad died yesterday...no power at all. Took it to the Verizon store and they had no clue as to what to do. I have out-of-warranty insurance that I've been paying for for many months, even years, and this was my first attempt to file a claim. They told me there would be a $199 deductible and then would only receive a refurbished model in exchange for the defective one. Came home and googled "completely dead iPad" and got to this page. I immediately tried the suggestions about holding the buttons down for a long time. Previously I had held them down only until the Apple icon came on, but this time I kept holding the two buttons down until the icon went away, and then after a loooong time, a picture of a charging cord came up, along with the iTunes symbol, to which an arrow was pointing. Does anyone know what this means?

After the iOS 9.2 update, my daughter's (who has severe autism), her iPad went to the iTunes charging cord screen and wouldn't budge. It took me a couple of hours to finally get the iPad to reinstall the **** update.

Yesterday the iPad ran out of battery and went to the red battery screen and would blink and the device would turn black.

There was no solution to get it out of this mode. I plugged it into my MacBook with a USB & now the iPad won't even do anything. NOTHING. No red battery blinking icon, NADA.

I went to Apple last night & bought a new wall charger. It was plugged into the wall all night.

I tried to power it up, tried to press the home & power buttons at the same time.

NOTHING!

This iPad is showing no sign of life.

I don't have a back up of the photos which are really special to us.

Any advice on what the culprit could be?

How to rectify it?

Did the update cause this? It sure seems like it.

Okay so I know this post is old but within the last hour my Ipad shutdown whilst on and every time i plugged a charger into (via wall or USB) it would flash up with the apple logo, the loading icon would spin for less than half a second and then the device would completely shut down! I tried everything, rebooting, trying a different wall socket, cleaned my ports out and still nothing. However I am now sat next to my full functioning Ipad again thank f***. I rebooted the ipad four or five times in a row and then let it die. i then plugged my charger into the wall and had it at the ready, ready to plug in at the right time. Before all of this I rebooted it by holding down the home and sleep button, on the second time it flashed i released the sleep button until Ipad said "connect to itunes" here i left it plugged in for 15 mins in the hope that it was charging and maybe this is what gave it more power. As i was saying though after all this i rebooted and plugged the cable into my Ipad just as the wheel started spinning, the next time it rebooted it got as far as the home screen, here I was able to turn the ipad off and let it charge. Hope this helps anyone at all because I spent hours trying many methods that didnt work for me.

My iPad (Gen 4) would not charge when I plugged it in to the USB charging (in my wall outlet). I received an error message that said my cable is not certified and may not work reliably. I plugged the cable into another USB receptor and received the same message. Since I didn't have a second cable to try, I planned to go to a friend's house to try her cable, just in case it was a faulty cable.

However, after reading lots of the posts, here is what I did to get it to charge.

I held the Home Button and the Sleep/Wake Button down at the same time for several minutes (2? 3? I don't know exactly, could have been more).

The Apple logo appeared, but then the iTunes logo appeared with a picture of the plugin cord. I closed the lid to my iPad to see what would happen. Later I went back to check and it had charged from 3% (which is what I had when I left it) to 7%. PROGRESS! So now it has been a few hours later and the iPad is charged to 62%. I will let it charge to 100%, then I will back up my docs/pics, etc. Then I will buy a new iPad Air 2.

So, if you stumble upon the iTunes logo with a pic of the cord, leave it there and let it charge (with your cord connected, of course).

MY iPad is working now, but now I can no longer charge it. It would only take one charge by the method I described above. Here is what I did next. I called the nearest Apple Store. The tech said he would do a diagnostic test remotely and tell me if my problem was the cable, the battery, or other. It took several minutes. He told me to go to settings and he would guide me...Settings>Privacy>Diagnostics& Usage. The test showed that my battery was no longer good.

So, I will make an appointment with the Apple Store, and they will change my battery for $99.

I see it's been several months since your post, and you've probably gotten the device working since then. But, it sounds like you put the iPad into what they call DFU mode. You can then reconnect to iTunes, as mentioned and it will load software from the computer onto the iPad. If memory serves, you could also try just holding the power button down until the apple logo appears, and it should start normally.

Glad to see this thread is still around. We've had my wife's iPad for 3 years, after buying it as a refurb through the Apple store. First time I've seen it do this. Seemed dead as a doornail. Completely unresponsive, whether pushing the home or power button, even when flipping the case lid (magnetic switch) or when plugging it in. Searched this am and used the "two-button" method and got the apple logo to pop up. Battery was at 47%, and is now taking a charge.

I have tried to hold both buttons as described by all, I cannot understand why after hours of doing this, I get a logo

showing low charge (as if small sliver of few red lines on the bottom on the empty battery logo) - nothing helps to

get it out of this - regardless of my patience....

Some of you report that the trick of holding both buttons helped them, it has not done anything for me.

I have accumulated pictures, important information, etc. that I would truly wished I dont loose.

IS there any option anyone knows of that might save my info and get iPad working again?

IN have never used any "jailbreaking" or unacceptable programs, I simply closed iPad with the short horizontal

line (if held horizontaly while having a home button on your R side), I think I might have locked the iPad,

but not sure of that.

ALl i can get is a logo of the empty battery that, at best, turns into the apple logo, but this is an ongoing process

that doesnt help. I tried to hook it to a charger for overnight, it doesnt charge. I even tried, from some advice online,

to connect to MacBook with UMB connection- no difference.

I am so worried that I might loose the information, please could you offer any other advice?

THANK YOU.
