Completely dead ipad - will not charge

Hope someone can offer suggestions

this is a 64MB wifi ipad I have had since 30th April. I love it and it has been excellent until today.

I had used it yesterday evening and it still had 55% showing on the battery - so it was just switched off overnight and left (no wifi running there is no signal where I am as we are away from home in our motorhome and I only charge it when it drops to 20%). Now it has been being charged bias it's mains lead via an inverter

When I looked this morning it was dead - I thought it odd but plugged it in to charge - only there was not the usual start up just nothing. And nothing still later

as I not home I do not have access to a mains socket or my computer

any thoughts would be appreciated

Hi,

Try pressing SLEEP/WAKE button and HOME button *at the same time* to force it restart for 2 or 3 times and see if it can turn on. Sometime it's just turn off by itself (happens more frequently for me esp when the battery is low) and we have to force it to start again.

Hope this helps,

I have a similar problem. Bought my iPad mini last November. Never a problem until last Sunday. I plugged into the 'correct' wall charger with my unit showing 40% charge. When I unplugged it 3 hours later it was dead. Completely dead. Went to the Apple store and they replaced it since it is less than a year old.

Yesterday, I plugged my mini into my MacBook Pro and restored all of my files. Worked great for the day. When I unplugged the new unit. It also died.

Now, I am on my way back to the Apple Store. This *****. I am guessing it might be a problem with the OS upgrade but who knows!!

Any info would be appreciated.

THis problem has reoccured teice and the heat worked, but this w/e nothing worked. After searching different phrases, I found this thread with a unique solution:

http://forums.everythingicafe.com/threads/iphone-wont-charge-or-turn-on.16042/

it involves plugging into a PC, restarting the computer, unplugging the iPad at the iPad, holding the home button and plugging it back in. Read the thread. Worked for me on the second try.

i Hope it helps.

Hmm 11 pages of this problem on this thread alone - well done Apple for not solving a common problem. I have an ipad3 and this has happened to 4 times in the year and half I've owned it. Completely non-responsive just a thin red battery after charging all night.

The 2 solutions that have worked for me are:

1. Plugging the ipad into the computer and rebooting it. It may take a few reboots before iTunes recognises the ipad then it starts to charge or lets you do the home/power button press.

2. Leaving the ipad on a hot radiator wrapped in a towel for 20 minutes. When I came back the ipad had the normal home screen and was charging normally at 5%.

I personally try not to let my ipad drop below 5% as this is when it freezes. I have read that ipad3 is particularly prone to freezing as the battery isn't powerful enough for the retina screen. Even when the ipad is plugged in and I use it at the same time, I can see the battery level dropping. Apple don't seem interested in this problem at all.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept my ipad from turning into an expensive brick.

Hello All,

At first I apologize of my bad English. My problem is with my iPad Air (32Gb) which is not charging with wall charger. Didn't drop it or anything similar. It just started unexpectedly couple of days ago when I plugged it in charger for night and noticed in the morning that it was not charged. First I was thinking lightning cable is broken but I also tested charging with another official cable with same result. I even tested with other official iPad 12W charger and no go.

I think I tested almost anything. Reset, restore, charging with PC and Mac and so on. One really weird thing is when I put iPad in Recovery-mode and plug it in the wall charger it charging and when I boot in "normal mode" no charging at all. Any ideas how to fix this?

Hola a todos,

I guess I will post my experience, since I just went through the same bad experience with my iPad 2.

tl;dr

It's working now. It seems to be fixed all by its own. Details below.

Last night I pushed the battery to the max watching Netflix, and eventually the iPad turned off, like it was expected. I plugged it in to the wall and left it there for the night, like many times I've done before.

But this morning all I got was the loop of ****: the battery icon with the red bars, then the apple logo, then black, then the battery icon again, and so on.

After many readings I realized the device was trying to load iOS but it didnt have enough battery power (why this didnt happen before, when the iPad had the same little amount of battery charge and yet it just charged fine? it beats me).

So I followed this clever hack: trying to stop the boot loop over and over, in order to get some battery charge, enough for the iPad to load http://www.daniellehatfield.com/2014/05/how-to-save-your-ipad-from-the-loop-of-d oom-a-true-story-of-patience-and-curse-words-by-danielle-hatfield/

This is: wait for the battery logo, then the apple logo, and then quickly press Sleep and Home button for a few seconds until the apple logo dissapears, followed by a 'quick white flash' seen around the screen. I thought that 'flash' was the signal that the boot was stopped. So all good until here.

I tried this, not as many times, just 6 o 7 maybe, like a test. Stopped, leave the iPad there, planning to comeback and try again later.

BUT when I came back I noticed the loop went from "battery logo-apple logo-black screen" to "battery logo - quick white flash - black screen". Yep, the same flash thing that I got when I pressed Sleep and Home button, it now appears all by its own, over and over. Why? I dunno.

So at this point I couldnt find what else to do. None of the posts I read described this scenario or sequences that didnt include the apple logo.

I tried connecting the iPad to my Windows laptop, to at least get the Recovery Mode (and knowing the laptop wont charge the iPad through the USB port. it never did, it will just work for iTunes sync). but nothing happened.

So I left it there and returned to work on stuff on my laptop.

After maybe 15-20mins I see the apple logo showing up on the iPad, out of nowhere. ***!

It will then load iOS, shows 1% battery and the message that it is connected to the laptop but it is not charging.

Ok then. I plugged it to the wall, and it's charging now.

So, what went wrong? And how was it fixed?

I cannot tell. All I can say is this: be very patient, and try all sort of solutions given in this thread. Try all of these before thinking on wipe the whole iPad, send it to repair shop, or even get a new one. Sometimes the solution is not as radically as it appears to be 🙂

This was what I was hoping would happen. It might have if I had been more patient. It seems that plugging the iPad directly into the wall socket helped most, and I tried all the key pressing and then iTunes would recognize it for a bit and then detect an error before I could get to the restore screen. So I just started pushing buttons while plugged in. Home, Home, Home, then the top right one (power) over and over, hold one, click the other. Finally I got a new screen which was prompting me to get it plugged into iTunes. That worked, but I had to get back to the computer within about 30 seconds or the deal was over. It is in 'Restore in Progress' mode so keep your fingers crossed. Tons of replies here, not sure if this has been tried or not, but I've been reading forums for hours and haven't seen it so here is something else people can try if the above solutions don't work.

Thanks for all the great advice on here!

Here's what I did, after trying holding down both buttons, to get my iPad going again: - I filled a hot water bottle, covered it with a towel and let the heat come thu - I lay my iPad on top and almost immediately it started to charge! I've not been able to get it to charge for two days now so this is something of a revelation.

My iPad went dead and I thought it was the cable which had become frayed at the connector. I replaced it with an Apple Lightning USB Cable but it only registered a battery icon with a red line at the bottom. It went black after a few seconds. I tried holding the home and power switches together for over two minutes to no avail. I tried to connect with iTunes but it wanted me to verify the link via my iPad (not happening since it seems to be dead). As a last resort, I put the iPad on a hot water bottle (in Nevada we don't have radiators 😁) for an hour. Miracle of miracles, it came back on and seems to be charging. Thank you to all who posted their issues, solutions and successes!

Mine won't turn on at all. One day it died (it was on the screen with low battery) so i plugged it in overnight. And in the morning i held the on/off button and it didn't turn on at all! i did the two button thing and plugged it in to my computer. nothing comes up on the screen. it started not to charge in the car which was new. but nothing comes up on the screen. HELP PLEASE!!

Well, I solved my problem. Connected the dead iPad to iTunes in my iMac, press the two buttons simultaneously and then the iTunes in my iMac gave two choices update or restore to factory settings. I tried the first (update) it didn't work, so I did restore factory settings and then I did restore my last back-up from iCloud and here we are working again. Thanks everyone for your inspiration.

I had the same problem last night. My iPad had been asleep all day and showed no signs of life at 1800. It had been at nearly 90% charge when I put it to sleep it about 0600 earlier in the day but I plugged it in to charge overnight. This morning I typed "dead iPad." in search on my iMac and Voila. I found the answer. From five years ago! What's up with Apple? are they so obsessed with creating a sleek container for their software that they're neglecting what goes into that container.?

Anyway, simultaneously holding the sleep/wake button and home buttons for about 15 seconds did the job. It was at 88% charge, despite being on charge overnight. Now awake, it is recharging Many thanks.

Hi.

This is what happened to my Ipad. I leave it turn off for about 2 month or more and the battery completely drain. And then, when i try to turn it on, it shows the battery logo and Apple logo in continuous loops. I did the 2 button reset and charging for over a night. Still unsuccessful. Later, I just leave the ipad near my laptop hot air ventilation. To my surprise, the ipad turn on. But, the problem still not solved. Once I remove the charging cable, It goes off and if the Ipad temperature is not hot enough. it wont turn on.

Other issue that I notice :

1. Once connected to charger, try touching below the ipad. Near the battery location. If you feel slight vibration, or maybe short circuit, that's the same things happened to me too.

This is what I do. Hope this solution will help you.

1. Plug the charging cable to USB port. Prefer Laptop. It's easy to put the Ipad near the hot air ventilation. Let the hot air blow under your ipad.

2. Wait till the Ipad turn on and detected by itunes. If the ipad stuck in the continuous battery + apple logo loops, try hold Home + Sleep button for 5-15 second to reset.

3. Once turn on and detected by itunes, please backup your ipad.

4. Later, click on restore ipad. Choose update and restore. Which will update to latest firmware and restore to default factory setting.

5. Wait till the process is done, and your ipad should work flawlessly.

Hope this will solved your problem. Sorry for broken English.
