Completely dead ipad - will not charge

Hope someone can offer suggestions

this is a 64MB wifi ipad I have had since 30th April. I love it and it has been excellent until today.

I had used it yesterday evening and it still had 55% showing on the battery - so it was just switched off overnight and left (no wifi running there is no signal where I am as we are away from home in our motorhome and I only charge it when it drops to 20%). Now it has been being charged bias it's mains lead via an inverter

When I looked this morning it was dead - I thought it odd but plugged it in to charge - only there was not the usual start up just nothing. And nothing still later

as I not home I do not have access to a mains socket or my computer

any thoughts would be appreciated

Hi,

Try pressing SLEEP/WAKE button and HOME button *at the same time* to force it restart for 2 or 3 times and see if it can turn on. Sometime it's just turn off by itself (happens more frequently for me esp when the battery is low) and we have to force it to start again.

Hope this helps,

My message to anyone who has this problem is to not give up. My Son's 15 month old 3rd generation iPad died a week ago, got down to about 3% then completely shut down, the red low battery just like everyone else. We kept it plugged in for a few days but only on the 5v charger. And still nothing so went to the apple genius bar who plugged it into a 12v charger which initially helped then back to nothing again. Told us was a major fault and said the only option was to buy a replacement for £250! Brought it home, plugged it into a 12v charger for a couple of days and went through the connect to itunes/restore process about 7 or 8 times until eventually it worked! Had to set it up as new, but now back up to 100% and working fine so all I can say is don't give up!!!!

Have to say thank the Lord for this thread! My iPad died last week, and after following the instruction to hold the sleep and help buttons together it worked.

Unfortunately, when I got in from work today my son said it's gone down again. I tried the above, no joy. I then placed it on a radiator shelf in the hallway. I left it there for an hour or so, plugged it in......and my son was jumping for joy! I don't know what happened, but I found it weird that applying heat would fix it.

Thank you all.

I just came here to find out why my iPad 2 seemed to die on my yesterday afternoon. I had just connected A DURO FACIO Wireless Keyboard and Folio to my iPad and followed the instructions to set it up and got it going and was able to type on it and so forth. I was pleased and then went out for the evening. When I got home several hours later I found the iPad seeming dead and it would not respond. I tried plugging it in to charge for three hours to no avail. I started reading the posts on this thread and then decided to go to the end, which I should have done in the first place. I tried the tip of holding both home and sleep buttons and began counting. It started back up after about 12 seconds and it still showed 100% charge. All I can figure is that I forgot to turn off the wireless keyboard and it caused the iPad to shut down completely.

Hope this helps others and I am certainly going to be careful to turn off the wireless keyboard from now on.

My iPad is 14 mos old. Completely dead, won't turn on. Took it to the Apple "Genius" bar today. They basically told me to go pound sand. Very rude service, felt totally disrespected. They said my option was to buy a new one or exchange it for a refurbished one for $300. I have purchased a lot of Apple products in the past but this was the last straw for me. If anyone in my company gave customer service like this, I would fire them. I think I am going to buy a laptop from a company that will stand behind their products.

Mine died at exactly 14 months too! And they told me the same thing about paying for a refurbished one. Ridiculous! I will never buy another ipad. I never dropped it or left it in a cold or hot place. It made no sense. It was also totally charged. I keep trying to hold the buttons down and left it charging to no avail. I'm pretty ****** at their customer service regarding this issue.

Mi iPad had 1% battery life left, kept shutting off, just appeared dead. I tried everything including holding the Home and Reset buttons together for the 10 seconds. Nothing. Then I remembered reading that by taking out the Sim Card you can bring it back to life. So, I used the end of a paperclip to push it out by pushing the tip into the little hole at the bottom of the side of the volume buttons. Be careful! My card and holder FLEW out! I replaced it within 10 seconds and immediately the Apple appeared. It is now charging properly again.

Also, I often forget to close all my applications and notice the battery dies faster if I don't hit the Home button twice and swipe the open apps up to close them. I've gotten so much help from you guys that I hope this helps somebody.

My iPad would not respond to the 2-button reset and to being connected to the charger all day. Then I read the suggestions of putting the iPad on the heater or under the MacBook to warm it up. Having no heater 'cause I live in the tropics, I decided to try warming it up with a hair dryer. Very carefully, always checkng with my hands that the iPad would not be toasted I warmed the backside for about 5-7 minutes. Frustrated that it did not work I left the iPad on the table with the charger connected. And suddenly a familiar beep surprised me. The iPad had come back to life with 100% battery. So resetting and warming the iPad does the trick. Thanks for the "warm" suggestion.

Okay, I've also been having a lot of Difficulty with my ipad, my family and I bought it christmas of 2012, so that means that the warranty is up. The ipad was charging since roughly around 12 am at night up until 1pm, right now i have the Ipad sitting next to me, plugged into my Macbook Air. There is no response from the computer acknowleding that it is plugged in. The ipad has not responded either I have tried the power button + home button trick but nothing. i'm not sure what to do? Any suggestions?

Thanks guys for this post. It has saved me a great deal! My wife's I pad mini just went dead yesterday. We could not charge neither could we turn it on, so worked up!! Then I came across these instructions which I followed diligently. After pressing both Power and Home buttons for 20 seconds, it came back to life with 73% battery charge. Well, I'm happy but still seeking answers from Apple Inc, what is this characteristic problem? Can we officialize it's solution?
