10.6.4 Update broke my internet access

I'm using a MB Pro and since I upgraded to 10.6.4 using Software Update this morning I haven't had any internet access at all.

I've done all the usual stuff:

- Repaired all permissions
- Installed the Full Combo update
- Tried both ethernet and Airport to connect
- Tried restarting my machine
- Set up new network location
- Restarted my BT Home Hub 2.0 network.

Bizarrely, I am able to browse my local network and even access files on my MacPro.

Nothing works.

Yet my Mac Pro using 10.5.8 is browsing the net flawlessly.

This is the worst experience I've ever had with an upgrade/update. As MB Pro is my work machine this is a real problem.

Any ideas?

Simon

Deleted all services and reloaded but to no avail. I logged onto wireless network with a MBP running 10.6.4 and t totally stopped my DSL router from getting any connection to the net. I connected to DSL via ethernet still without any success of getting a DSL signal so saved my DSL settings to HD, did a factory reset and reloaded the saved settings and still no worky!
I plugged my 10.5.8 MBP in, reset DSL to factory settings, and manually loaded DSL settings via the wizard and it is now back to normal.
Im not willing to screw it again even though I know how to fix it, so my work around for now is as simple as Im not using my 10.6.4 MB or MBP.

10.6.4 has stopped my MBP i7 from connecting too, apart from Skype, and I´ve tried all the suggestions listed in the thread to no avail. However, my workaround is to connect in Windows 7 on my Parallels VM - running on the same MBP...

This is definitely an OSX 10.6.4 bug, as apart from connecting on the same machine via Windows, other older Macs and iphones are connecting fine over the same Wifi network.

My only problem is, without any internet at all on the i7, how will I download the software update to OSX, once Apple finally roll it out?

Hi there - the only thing that isn't working is OSX 10.6.4 WIFI. I can connect via LAN, via tethered iPhone, and via Windows 7 on the same MBPi7 in Parallels. Multiple different Macs and PC´s (non 10.6.4) have no trouble either on the same WIFI network.

I´ve done the DCHP renew, and the SystemConfiguration folder removal etc but still no OSX WIFI under 10.6.4

We only have a 1MB ISP connection. Is there a 'threshold' above which the 10.6.4 WIFI kicks in? The ReadMe for the upgrade mention fixes to stabilize VPN connections?

SOLVED! I downgraded from 10.6.4 to 10.6 and I can now connect to my ADSL router via Airport and surf the internet all nite long without a problem. My router didnt hang, or lag or give me any problem what so ever.
The downgrade was simple, all I had to do was put the 10.6 disc in and hit restart (hold c when starting up) and then go. It left all of my user files alone and simply reinstalled the OS so I was left with all the same user data and a downgraded OS to 10.6.
So I wouldnt wait for Apple to solve this as I doubt it will happen for a while, go forth and reinstall ppl.

Dear All,

Anyone has got a working solution to get this airport/wifi/internet connection issue ?

I'm using 10.6.4 and had the same problem with 10.6.3

I read so many discussions on this problem and try many bug fixes. Some did work for some time (this so weird!) but eventually it doesn't work.

I have other computers at home: PCS and MAC (10.5.8 and 10.6.2) and they don't have any wifi/internet connection/airport issues.

This problem is very odd and very frustrating.

Thanks for your help,

Try changing your computer name to something short in Sharing on the Preferences pane.

I have 2 MacBook Pros at home, both showed that they connected to wifi, but one actually got internet and the other didn't.

When I checked the router status, the only strange thing was that Under attached devices, it was recognising the Device Name for the working machine and not the other. When I shortened the name, bizarrely, the internet came back on line.

Might have been just some odd co-incidence? But maybe worth a go.
