You should be able to do so if your existing contract has not expired, but you won't be on a month to month basis until it has expired.

This will remain as a post-paid account billed on a monthly basis which will be on a month to month basis as you are now, and you can cancel service with AT&T at any time without an early contract termination fee since there is no two year contract, but the iPhone will remain carrier locked with AT&T.

Non commitment pricing for the iPhone 4 is $599 for the 16GB and $699 for the 32GB model.

Please keep in mind that even with no contract those phones will still be locked to AT&T and you will have to pick a voice and data plan (month-to-month)

k so what if im a new at&t user and i want to purchase the non-commitment 32gb iphone 4? i just want to start the contract a while later. in such a case:
1) can i purchase a non-commitment iphone 4 without starting a new contract with at&t?
2) if no, can i purchase it with just a one month account on at&t and get it activated there?
3) if i can purchase it with a 1 months account, how much extra will it cost me (apart from the $699 for the iphone 4 32gb)?
4) also, r there any termination or cancellation fees if i cancel it within a day or two after activation?

Activation with AT&T is required at the store with the iPhone is purchased.

Although the iPhone sold at AT&T's no-commitment price does not require a two year contract, it is on a month to month basis - on an AT&T post-paid or monthly billed account - the same as with a two year contract, and is carrier locked with AT&T only. Since it can be set up on a post-paid or monthly billed account only, AT&T requires a credit check, which requires a U.S. social security number and a valid/verifiable U.S. billing address.

You can cancel the next day but you will be billed for a full month including a minimal calling plan and a required data plan along with a $36 activation fee.

In addition, Apple support and warranty coverage in honored in the U.S. only for an iPhone sold in the U.S.
