iOS 4 compatibility with Mercedes Audio 20 / Audio 50 / Command

Has anyone tried to plug an iOS4 iPhone (3G, 3GS, 4) into one of the aforementioned systems? (Cradle or MultiMedia Interface)

I'm nervous that after the upgrade I wont be able to listen to music and browse folders directly from my steering wheel.

I'm willing to find a guinea pig to test it on mine. I'll let you know ASAP.

Cheers

Dear All,

I've done some more research and it appears likely a bug was introduced into the Bluetooth Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP, PBA) with iOS4.

I cannot test this further with Apple Engineering as I no longer have the 3G but a 4 and the Mercedes 3G dock doesn't fit a 4.

If a commenter on this thread with an Apple Developer account and a 3G can raise an Apple Bug Report, Apple Engineering will help. They are aware of the issue.

Hope this helps

Regards

I have a new Iphone 4 and a 3G Merc cradle. I checked first by carefully holding the 4 in the cradle and discovered it paired and worked OK (albeit with the contacts issues) and then set about very carefully taking a stanley knife to the cradle and hey presto, new phone fits the cradle perfectly. I might struggle to sell the cradle second hand in the future as 'undammaged' but it still works fine for both the old 3G which my son now uses as well as the new 4.

Quick update from my side:

Rollback to 3.13 doesn't work with my iPhone 3GS!

I filed in a bug report to apple engineering, and had to provide additional information (error log using iPCU, see above), now waiting... pls note that they only react in case you're a registered apple developer!

I filed in a complaint to mercedes germany, got an immediate call back, confirming that the issue is well known (quote: "we were surprised by the ios update, apple did not give us a heads up, and it also affects other car manufacturers...")... mercedes promised they're working on a solution, further feedback by my local dealer.

Keep you posted....

I too have this problem with my Mercedes R Class Command system and iPhone 3GS, now it has been updated to iOS4.

I sent Mercedes of Manchester an Email about it last week, and they basically stated the following:

I have had this same thing with another customer late last week and it is a problem with the apple software V4.0
I have been in contact with the accessory specialist in Germany and they are aware of the problem and are in contact with apple.
We had an almost identical thing happen when apple released the iphone software V2 just before release of the 3G phone. (I have had my iphone since they first came out V1.6) Back then apple fixed it in their next update, V2.1 I think it was.
I would advise waiting for apple to fix it with an update, There are however ways on the internet to restore your phone back to a previous software V3.1.6. I wouldn't recommend this as it can damage your phone if its not done properly.

I guess we will just have to wait patiently!!! Most surprising, is that Steve Jobs drives a Mercedes, surely he must have noticed this during the testing period!!

Same issue with my Toyota Highlander 2009 Navigation system Blue Tooth. I have a hard time believing Apple wexpoects millions of car users to get firmware updates for their head units. I am having similar issues. IP4, connected to a 2009 Toyota Bluetooth system. Worked flawlessly with my 3G.

I have erased all settings, rebooted phone, tried every way of pairing. Phone is always in a plastic holder 3 inches from stero or in cup holder. Result, static for the other end. No one can hear me and my calls get s garbeled and fade in and out. I hear just fine.

My 1G and 3G all work great, but not the iPhone 4.

I have not yet contacted Apple. I keep hoping I will find a solution on these boards.

Press reprots today state that Apple are due to hold a press conference tomorrow(Friday 16th July at 10.00 PT [6.00pm UK time]) regarding the widely reported problems with the iPhone 4.
I also understand from other sources that iOS4.1 went into beta testing earlier this week. With any luck, the revised software may actually resolve the problem for us all..... Fingers crossed!
