iPad won't turn on...

I turned off my iPad and went to turn it on again right away because I wanted to check something. The **** thing will not turn on. Even if I hook it up to my Mac or power cable the charging screen will not start nor will iTunes start. The battery was at about 50%. The iPad is DEAD!! Does anyone know what is wrong or how I can power it back on. Its not reacting to anything I do.

Hello, welcome to Apple Discussions.

Try holding the sleep/wake button (top right) and the home button (bottom center) for about 10 seconds. If that doesn't work then try doing the same procedure with it plugged into a power source.

If that doesn't work then try this article:

(it only says iPhone and iPod Touch but the process for the iPad is the same)

[iPad 2] For the last few weeks after plugging in the charger prior to the battery being fully drained (i.e., plugged in with 50% charge left) I've encountered the below issue:

While still plugged in, I tried to start the iPad. The battery icon appeared with the thin red line indicating that I needed to recharge the iPad despite the fact that it should have been fully charged. Since I already knew about the hard boot -- holding both the home and start buttons -- I tried that. It worked.

If I uplugged the charger, the icon showing the USB cable appeared indicating that I need to plug it in. Again, the hard boot worked.

After each of the above described times, the iPad rebooted showing 100% charge. During the last several weeks, I've done this around 5-10 times and was successful. Great...

However, both last night and this morning I tried doing the hard boot to no avail -- stuck with the battery icon showing the red line indicating no charge.

I'll try to boot it again and will do a reset if I get lucky.

My question is whether or not my iPad is shot.

I set up an appointment at the local Apple "Genius Bar" for this afternoon. Hopefully they'll have an answer.

Fortunately, every thing is backed up as of yesterday (I back up several times per week).

Any input regarding other solutions will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I had the SAME problem, I thought my IPad was "DEAD"!!!! 😮 I've had it for about 4 years now (it's an Ipad2) and I thought it was beyong fixing. 😢

But I found your question and their solution and WHOLLA!!! It came right on! The "Apple" stayed lit with no status bar but I followed the "other directions" below and it explained to connect your Ipad to a computer and sign in to Itunes and suddenly my IPad came BACK TO LIFE!!!!! OMG I am SOOO happy! And it still has ALL it's data (thank God cause I have tons of stuff on there and game data too!) and I am glad that I am not the only one this happened to. *It must be a common problem or 'default' with Ipads??* Anyway, thanks for your question and thanks whoever posted the answer! Now I know what to do when/if it happens again. 🙂

I have a fairly new iPad 4. Less than a year old. Updated the OS last week after the new security update was released only to have my battery draining ridiculously fast after whether I used the iPad or not. Battery died Sunday and I've been charging but the iPad refuses to come on. Tried the home and Power button thing for 2 minutes and still nothing. Plugged it into a pc with iTunes and the pc doesn't even recognize it. HELP PLEASE!!
