iphone bluetooth keyboard

Same for me: simply doesn't work. iPhone cannot find the keyboard and it's stuck in searching progress.

Same for me. I have an iPhone 3G running the new iOS 4.0, and Apple's original (non-aluminum) bluetooth keyboard. The keyboard works fine with my Macbook Pro.

Turned off Bluetooth on my Macbook Pro just to be sure that wasn't interfering. Turning the iPhone's Bluetooth on and off and the keyboard on and off doesn't work; the phone just keeps on searching. I waited about 5 minutes the one time, 1-2 mins the other times.

UPDATE: I looked at the fine print on Apple's website; apparently bluetooth keyboarding does NOT work with iPhone 3G (but it does work with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and 3rd generation iPod touch). So I'll have to wait for my iPhone 4 to do this, but hopefully those with supported phones will be able to get it working.

I'd just like to add that I also have a 3GS that's also not working with a bluetooth keyboard (a Freedom Pro, in this case) after the update. It's very disappointing.

Me too - 3GS, apple aluminum wireless keyboard. No love. It tells me what it is, but never asks to pair it.

Same here until I realized I had to go into the bluetooth settings on the Mac and have it forget the keyboard so it would enter pairing mode. Once I did that, the iPhone 3GS found it right away and paired with no problem.

The keyboard can't be linked to both your Mac and iPhone at the same time. Move it away from or shutdown your Mac and turn keyboard off and on to make it discoverable.

Another item to consider re: connecting a bluetooth keyboard to the iPhone. Been trying to pair the original white Apple bluetooth keyboard (model #A1016) with no luck, even following the loads of excellent advice here. Then I stumbled on a posting specifically indicating that the A1016 was incompatible with the i Pad. No great expectation that the iPhone would add compatibility that the iPad didn't have.

Oh well, it was the only BT keyboard I had...been married to Logitech (non-BT) wireless keyboards for a long time now....

All you have to do is turn off your keyboard, then turn off the bluetooth on your phone, then turn the keyboard back on and pair your iPhone to it. Mine works flawlessly.

I finally succeeded. Had to disconnect the keyboard from my mac, take the batteries out and put them back in to the keyboard, switching bluetooth off and on on an iPhone. After doing so the keyboard was immediately found and paired.

*** Apple - waiting 3 years for such a basic feature and wasting so much time trying to get it work.

In reply to my own post... it's working perfectly now! I dug up the Nokia 770 the keyboard had previously been used with and disconnected it, also removed the keyboard's batteries, restarted the iPhone, and then let all of it sit overnight. In the morning it worked. No idea if it was one of the things I did, the phase of the moon, or what, but it's all great now.

The A1016 (original keyboard) is not working here either. If I hit return on the kbd, I get a screen that flashes for less than a second asking for the code, then the failure to connect dialogue box.

Oh well, maybe a smaller portable kbd would be a better choice. Off to Fry's 🙂

I find it might be good to simply of course good to get the KB away from the divice it is currently paired to, but also to "restart" the pairing process by activating the "Forget about that Device" option on the second BT screen at the end of a KB/iPhone usage session. That way, the iPhone "re-recognizes" the KB next time pairing is attempted.

You have to unpair the keyboard with whatever it is paired with. Then turn it off and then on. At this point go to iphone bluetooth. It will find the keyboard and that's as far as it goes. The iphone 3GS and IOS4 cannot pair a bluetooth keyboard in spite of what apple says.
The iphone will not display any pairing numbers or anything. The pinwheel just keeps spinning and that's as far as it goes with trying to get an apple bluetooth keyboard to work with iphones.

Why is there no bluetooth forum for iphones? Nothing is listed! The only way I found this page was by searching. There is nothing on Apple Support to help either. There is not even a complete selection list when you try to get help with the iphone... nothing bluetooth is listed there.
