iOS 4 - Gmail Push - Mails stucks in the outbox

Hi,

if I send mails from an 3rdApp they will stuck in the Outbox and are not sending automatic.
With 3.1.3 this works fine.

Has anyone the same issue?

I was having issues with both 3rd party and mail.app messages getting stuck in the outbox. Incoming mail would also arrive, but if I tried to trash a message I would sometimes get errors that the messages couldn't be moved. If I tried to send the mail in the outbox manually, it would give me an error message that it had trouble sending the message (well duh). As others have done, I deleted the account from the iPhone, did a hard power cycle (top and home buttons), then reconfigured Gmail Exchange push as per Google's instructions. Mail now works normally. Both mail.app and 3rd party apps (Camera, Twittelator Pro, etc) send properly and automatically and messages are deleted as requested.

I got an easy fix from an apple tech and it works perfectly:
Go to Settings, General, Reset (at bottom of page), Reset Network
It will restate and your gmail account will work like before!

After resetting, emails still stucks in the outbox. I try all recommendation given here, but meanwhile I think that this is an Apple Bug with iOS 4. I use imap and wait for an update os the iOS.

I had tried suggestions from a number of the posts and because I had a number of different accounts had only deleted the ones that seemed to be in question with no luck. This time I tried to start from scratch. I deleted all 4 of my accounts, ran the settings->general->reset->reset network settings, and then did a hard reboot of the system(hold power and home until reset).

Once restarted I put in the account that I would like to use as my outgoing email, a manually setup gmail IMAP account (all the same as standard setup with different outgoing email address). After that I setup my gmail exchange account for contacts and calendar sharing. Next I setup the yahoo caldav account. I did not setup the fourth account which was a personal email POP account that is now forwarded to gmail. Please note: I do not know if it had bearing on whether it works or not, but I intentionally installed the account that I wanted to send through first in case it was having trouble choosing a proper SMTP server from the list of accounts.

After each step I checked and the third party app email would send through the outbox.

As a side note, I also set the sent email and deleted email to stay locally (with deleted items to never delete) as directed on google's IMAP setup page for manual setup. When the sent email goes through their SMTP it will automatically be added to the IMAP sent folder. When deleted locally the file will be archived. To delete you will have to move the folder to the gmail trash folder. You could remap this if you do not want files to be moved to the archive but perminantly deleted by default. The only weird thing about these settings was that the phone had to be restarted for the sent mail to keep a local copy. It did not take effect immediately as it should have.

Good Luck.

Well, as crazy as it sounds, I fixed mine by simply deleting my Gmail IMAP account. I never really use it unless my Google Sync account is having issues, so I always just have it turned off.

I will say, though, that is was riversauce who actually got me going in that direction because he recommended deleting all of your email accounts and starting over. Well, be as it may, I was getting ready to do just that, but, as soon as I deleted my Gmail IMAP account, I heard the email sending sound because there was still an email "stuck" in my outbox. After I hearing this message getting sent, I decided to try it out again just to make sure that is was still working. I sent some pictures as well as a few different links from some third party apps, and everything went through without getting "stuck" in my outbox. So, with that said, it looks like I'm back in business! Thanks again to riversauce for pointing me in the right direction, and I hope that this possibily helps someone else out too! Good luck! 🙂
