I've had an iPhone 3G running on 3.1.3 for a little over a month. No problems whatsoever streaming bluetooth audio (A2DP) through to my Pioneer FH-P800BT headunit and nearly flawless operational reliability. Fast forward to the iOS4 release date, and I can no longer stream bluetooth audio, and two applications (Facebook and Slacker Radio) in particular crash pretty consistently.

I can say with certainty after running Pandora, that the application problems are a result of software developers not being aware of Apple's software architecture and how it changed between 3.1.3 and 4. That's probably Apple's fault in not clearly conveying it how it changed, and probably the developer's fault for assuming that it wouldn't change.

I've restored my iPhone multiple times. First time, I just let it resync all my applications and set it up like before. Second time, I set it up like a new phone and then reinstalled all the applications I wanted. Both times, I got the same results: failure to connect to my headunit and buggy applications.

I even tried unpairing my phone and then repairing it. Both times, it'd maintain the connection but as soon as I shut the headunit off, it'd forget.

I just got off the phone with Apple. The rep told me that there are multiple people calling in with the same problem. We're not alone, and it's unlikely that the problem is anyone else other than Apple. We just have to be patient.

HEY EVERYONE!!!

haha

I just talked to Michele Davis, a Supervisor of technical support and she is forwarding the issue up to the Engineering Department at Cupertino. Hopefully this issue will be resolved. She said to give them prolly 4 -5 days to respond, WHY DONT THEY WORK ON THE WEEKENDS erg .... Anyways, I guess well all have to sit in our cars for 5 ******* minutes resetting our A2DP profiles and re -pairing (which *****!!!) ... every single time we turn on our cars 😟

I think I discovered the way u can connect both sound and phone
First always connect from iPhone, so never auto connect the iPhone

- turn off the cd player
- push the phone button on cd player, left down for some secs till show the menu.
- choose bt hands free
- standard
- pair from phone
- it will say READY

than click on the iPhone to connect

Just to reiterate: the problem is not that the phone and the car receiver won't pair. The problem is that the pairing won't stick.

What you are describing is a reset of the pairing, which will work as long as you don't shut off the power. But once you do, the audio pairing will be lost. The phone and receiver won't connect either manually or automatically after that.

I've tested this repeatedly on my Pioneer FH-P8000BT, and the results are consistent, both with my old iPhone 3G and new iPhone 4. As I've said before, this worked fine before, and the only variable is iOS 4, so the fix must come from Apple—everyone, please file feedback at:

Hello,

Same problem as everyone here, with my Pioneer DEH-P700BT. Until OS4.0 I was only sad of not being able to remotely control iPhone via Bluetooth AVRCP (wheel commands CAR-PI162). Now I'm only sad that... nothing works, well, excepted Hands-Free for phone calls.
Just submitted a feedback about this A2DP regression.

Did "they" run tests with bluetooth devices ? Okay obviously not each one, but a sample of let's say: 10 models ? So time consuming ? Sorry for being angry now.

Regards.

Well finally after some headaches, test-error-test again, I switched off to USB connectivity instead of Bluetooth A2DP for audio streaming.

Initially I avoided this because of 3 known problems:
- Pioneer's DEH-P700BT Car Audio was designed for older IPods, not IPhones.
- Listening to USB music from Iphone, interrupted by a call (in or out doesn't matter) via Bluetooth Hands-Free, then hanging off leaded each time to USB crash.
- Browsing my music library from the Pioneer unit was really slow (USB 1 I guess ?).

Facing this A2DP issue, I changed my mind: there is a way to let IPhone lead the USB stream: simply press the IPod button for 2 seconds on the Pioneer unit.
This way, no crash coming back to USB from a call hang off, and browsing is much faster/easier from IPhone.
And guess what: 'Next' works fine now, no need to AVRCP bluetooth profile 🙂

My only drawbacks with USB now are:
- the annoying popup telling me my Pioneer device is outdated and therefore not supported
- the constant USB charge depending on my car being switched on & off, not the best way to maintain IPhone's battery I guess.

Well, still waiting for an iOS fix, but I can wait a while now.

Regards.

I had this same problem after updating my 3Gs to iOS 4, my iPhone 4 doesn't work either. It has to be an issue with iOS 4, because everything worked fine before.

I tried messing around with this the other day and found that I can get it to pair if I delete the profiles from my stereo and phone and re-pair both devices. The problem is, once I shut off my vehicle and turn it back on, the A2DP connection doesn't come back up automatically, so I have to repeat the process to get them paired again... major PITA.

What's weird is the hands free connection for the phone come's up every time and I can make and receive calls without issue.

Hope Apple fixes this with a new revision to iOS 4.

Same problem with my Parrot MKi9100 handsfree kit. Got this from Parrot Forum:

The iPhone must be completely reset and all devices removed from the Parrot and from the iPhone before they will work properly after the OS/Firmware Update.

iPhone:
* SETTINGS
* GENERAL
* BLUETOOTH
* Select the Handsfree kit
* Select the option to UN-PAIR
* Press and hold the top POWER button and the center SELECT/Home button at the same time until the unit turns complete off. Do not touch the screen when prompted to “Slide to shutdown”.
* Power the iPhone back on by pressing the top POWER button.

Handsfree reset:
** Select the menu for BLUETOOTH
** Select PAIRED DEVICES
** Delete all the paired devices that you have stored in your Parrot

** RE-PAIR your iPhone

Handsfree Kit:
** SETTINGS
** Select BLUETOOTH
** Select PAIR WITH
** Choose the option for OTHER PHONES

IPHONE
* SETTINGS
* GENERAL
* BLUETOOTH
* Select the Handsfree kit
* Enter code for the pin when prompted

Got audio streaming working again with iPhone 3Gs and Parrot MKi9100
hope it helps

Hardware: iPhone 4, Pioneer DEH-P700BT

Followed CWulf's suggestions and with the help of the Pioneer's manual got the A2DP working. The key difference between his suggestions and what I'd previously done was the hard shutdown of the phone after telling it to forget the pairing. With this method I paired both Phone and Music functions at the same time and tested both. This was the only time I've ever gotten the A2DP to pair and function and it worked fine until I turned off the Pioneer head unit. When the headunit restarted the phone paired for handsfree use (which worked), but the A2DP failed to reconnect. The head unit displays a connection error message. The phone just sits there being a phone.
