Car stereo doesn't recognize USB after updrage to iOS 4
After the upgrade, I plugged device into USB port on stereo and it now says read error on the head unit. Kenwood has no official help as of today other than to say they only support up to 3gs, no reference to OS version. Model number is KDC-X693. Anyone else run into this or have suggestions?
"made for iphone" actually, and I fully understand what a major change is and does, I'm simply stating the fact that I am also having the same problem with my setup, and it *****, thats all. Theres no need for your rudeness.
I had the same issue with my Kenwood X993. After reading some of the posts in this thread, I performed a hard-reset on my iPhone 3GS. After that, my stereo now recognizes my iPhone.
I was hoping that with the new iOS4 software, Apple would have fixed the issue with the AD2P bluetooth output taking over as the current output medium when the Kenwood syncs with the iPhone, thus forcing me to unplug-replug the dock connector for the output to direct through the dock connector once again.
I know this should probably be in a different thread, but with all the users on this one with similar stereos, I'm hoping that somebody else may have come up with a solution.
My 3GS (with iOS4) worked great via USB in my JVC head unit for about a week. All of a sudden a couple of days ago, I get the error message "Cannot Play" on the head unit after it tries to read the iPhone for a couple of minutes. I thought it was the cable, because I also tried 2 different iPods with the same result. Took the cable inside and used it on the iMac and it worked just fine. Tried 3 different USB cables in the car, none of them worked. I thought it might be the USB port itself that somehow got fried, but now that I see all these posts, maybe not. I'm heading to Best Buy today to see if they can suss it out. I've had the stereo less than a year and will be really ****** if I can't play my music through anything but an AUX cable.
Just got off the phone with JVC. They told me how to reset the head unit, which I did. Both iPods now work, but the iPhone still says "Cannot Play", so it's definitely iOS4. On hold with Apple now...
Okay, my iPhone is now working in the car! Apple had me power the phone off, and while the stereo was running, plug the phone into the USB port. That forced the stereo to recognise it, which powered it up automatically and it started playing like a champ. I hope it lasts!
I've been having this problem in my Prius since the upgrade to os4. Now, every time i synch the phone i have to go through the hard reset, car off, restart routine. It's really, really annoying. Sometimes I have to try it three or four times before it works. I can always get it to work, but it just takes a bunch of tries each day.
I've been lucky so far. I've only had to do it the one time and it's recognised my iPhone ever since. I was told by JVC that it's important to make sure you plug your iPhone or iPod in to the USB before starting the engine and don't disconnect until the ignition is turned off. I've been doing that religiously, so maybe the same rule applies for your Prius.

It notes on the USB Connection with iOS4 PDF that 'the compatibility with iPhone 4 will be updated,...'
Does this mean that there will be firmware updates to existing JVC headunits? If so, is this new, as I can't find any information on this, and my dealer was pretty clueless about it as well. If there are any firmware updates, can you link where I can download a possible update to my JVC KD-A815, if it is end user installable?
