Yes, I think that is a problem for two main reasons:
1/ My iPhone is synchronised to my computer at home... and I can't add books while away from home.
2/ Most of the pdfs I've got sent by someone else.
I could copy them to my iDisk and then download on my iPhone, that should work, but is not an elegant solution... I think Apple (or Stanza) should sort this out.
"It worked for me after I deleted Stanza. Apparently having Stanza installed made all pdf in my mails into images. You could try that"
Wowz! Thanks for the heads-up!!! I've deleted Stanza and now, it indeed puts a thumbnail of the docs in the mail area with an "Open In" context menu item. With that, it's become possible to open in any PDF reader that registers itself as a reader (SimplyPDF, QuickPDF+, PDF HD, Fast PDF, iAnnotate PDF, MyPDFs, PDF Juggler, DocsToGo, CloudReaders, PDFReader Pro etc.)
However,
1. I haven't found a way to open the file in iBooks itself (not that I'd need it - some of the third party offerings are WAY better...)
2. after selecting Quick Look (which just uses the Safari engine for rendering), Mail seems to be crashed - it just won't work but stays showing the list of the "Open In..." list, requiring a complete restart of the entire iPad.
3. some sample one-page PDF files I've created for compatibility testing are still presented as an image. (Will try creating some two-page files to see whether the problem only affects one-page PDF's.)
BTW, if you reinstall Stanza after deleting it, it'll reintroduce the problem of just presenting the frontpage of the PDF file and making it impossible to do anything else.
+"We have reproduced this problem, and we will fix it in the release-after-next (we already submitted the next update to Stanza before we tracked down this problem). Unfortunately, there isn't any workaround short of removing Stanza from the device."+
Well, I've removed Stanza but the problem remains. Maybe because of another App I have? I have eReader and Kindle. But I'm not going to remove all my apps just to fond which one is causing trouble....
I removed Stanza and the problem went away immediately, didn't even have to restart. I've still got Kindle, no problems there, but I don't have eReader...
