Slow iPhone 3G after iOS 4

Why is my 3G so slow?????????? I updated to 4.0 and my 3G has been having issues ever since. I really cant stand it! the rotation takes like 5 seconds, switching home screens is jumpy, the iPod crashes if you use the purchased link in the iTunes app. Folders open and close slowly, and when I lock it the lock noise plays then it plays like 3 more times. Settings also crashes!!!

is anyone else having these problems? Im really confused. It didn't do this with 3.1. I've also never done anything like jail breaking it....

I've tried restarting but nothing works, any help, Is it time for a 3GS?

I am tired with Apple's capricious behavior. Specially in regards to iPhones. I too have the 3G which now moves at a snail's pace. I did not pay all the money (for the phone and the service) so that I can be forced to either spend hours downgrading my OS or buy a new device.

Why do I think that a class action is in the making? I mean, I was never informed of the limitations on my phone in regards to OS4. I thought that it would make my phone better -- definitely NOT what I am experiencing...

Why does the Blackberry seem like such a great idea??

Class action lawsuit?

Does anyone have any idea of how to get the ball rolling? Andreas DT makes a point that's been on my mind for quite a while now: Why am I paying $100+ every month for services I can't access?

My 3G is so slow now I can't even answer phone calls. I pick up the phone, slide the unlock bar, wait and wait and wait, then by the time the phone's ready, the call is gone.

Problems after 4.0, and still present in 4.0.1

The sms dictionary (Danish) is very annoying. Some common words like 'at' is changed to 'St.'.
Safari.app crashes
Camera.app takes forever to launch, crashes from time to time.
phone.app Answering phone calls is not always possible (!?) The ui locks up...
iPod.app crashes, takes forever to launch
In general. The UI feels slow

there are host of issues with OS 4 on the 3G. Frequent crashes, freezes, stalling, - just extremely poor overall performance... I can understand the apps because the developers have to redo their codes... I got that... what I'm talking about is the phone's basic functionality. From trying to answer a call and getting no response from the phone to viewing a text message which now, and I timed it, takes almost 20 seconds to see after I click "view." I went from having a finely tuned Ferrari F430 in smart phones, to a Yugo in a matter of hours. Not cool at all...

Each user experiences something different with their phones, but I believe we're all experiencing some similar faults. Because Apple monitors these posts, perhaps we should just start listing what we're experiencing. That might help them drill down to the core issues of what's wrong with OS 4 on the 3G. And yes, we all know, or at least have come to the conclusion that OS 4 wasn't meant for the 3G phone. Perhaps, but since they allowed 3G users to "upgrade" then fixing this is a priority because even though there are a lot of iP4's that are being sold, they're more 3G users out there... even worse, those users with OS4 on their phones aren't complaining, they're just going to get another non-iphone and Apple will have lost that customer - phone wise... and that's not smart business...

Any hint of a fix coming? I did plan on grabbing a 4G when they came available but I'm frustrated attempting to do basic things on my phone now (both my 3G and 3GS seem to have problems with iOS 4.0.1 loaded). Apps hanging while in the middle of being used, Safari hangs all the time. Text message app crashes or takes minutes to open. Forget making a phone call... 😟 Am I to dump money on the 4G and simply pray everything is going to work as advertised?

I have found that reducing the search options in settings>General>Home Button>Spotlight Search helps reduce the lag on the slider while answering calls. Uncheck all the garbage that is checked to a minimum. Note the less you have the less it has to pre-check when you hit that slider. I have seen a huge improvement in the slider delay by removing everything. I don't use spotlight search for anything.

My iPhone 3G has been incredibly slow since I "upgraded" to iOS4 and iOS 4.0.1. Restarts don't help. Takes forever for some apps to open - including Apple apps like iPod and the Settings Tab. I've missed phone calls because the touch screen ignores my swipe repeatedly. If I get a text while listening to music, the phone sometimes crashes. If I try to do something else (text, Safari, Twitter) while listening to music on the iPod, the music skips and repeats like a bad CD.
I'm not going to buy the iPhone4 until the software on my current iPhone is corrected; to do so now I would feel like I had been coerced.

I was hoping that Apple would have fixed this by now. I don't even care if they fix 4.0.1 all I want is the ability to downgrade back to my old configuration. Is it that hard to give us that option?

My iPhone 3g is a nightmare to use now and I agree with DCWater that I refuse to upgrade until this is fixed. No company will break a product that I have and force me to update.

Dude, sorry to say but they already broke it and are forcing you to update. Same thing here. My 3G will never be same.

My recommendation:

1. Uncheck all items from spotlight.
2. Get the system activity monitor app (I know, it $ucks to have to buy an app to "solve" this, but it frees memory).

Here is what I think the problem is: iOS4 has multitask, right? But only for 3GS and 4. Not for 3G, but the OS still lets the apps run in the background. That way your not-that-strong-3G gets no memory left for doing the basic actions.

Try that and let me know if it works for you. Every time I feel it running slow, i just open that app and it automatically frees the memory, making it come back to life.
