Slow iPhone 3G after iOS 4

Why is my 3G so slow?????????? I updated to 4.0 and my 3G has been having issues ever since. I really cant stand it! the rotation takes like 5 seconds, switching home screens is jumpy, the iPod crashes if you use the purchased link in the iTunes app. Folders open and close slowly, and when I lock it the lock noise plays then it plays like 3 more times. Settings also crashes!!!

is anyone else having these problems? Im really confused. It didn't do this with 3.1. I've also never done anything like jail breaking it....

I've tried restarting but nothing works, any help, Is it time for a 3GS?

Also having problems with the 3G. Whole opperating platform significantly slower than 3.1. Takes a long time to do anything now, even simple things like call up an sms: crashes regularly, restarting doesn't fix it. Not jailbroken but currently considering it to use the ‘ztoggle’ to disable homescreen wallpapers and multitasking. Someting is very wrong here. Or very right if the idea is to get everyone to upgrade 😉

-The 3G iPhone runs like a turtle. I've done all the resets, restarts, reboots. the phone runs just okay for a day then its back to the turtle pond.
-Camera Roll shows my previously taken pictures, but there's a big black box over some of the thumb nails. if you click over the black box a picture will open but you don't know what picture your selecting.
-Bought in 12/08. 1.5 years old, I'd expect this if the phone was 4+ years old.
-Make 100% of us happy as Steve claims.

WE NEED A REAL SOLUTION and WE NEED IT NOW!!

Seriously, this disaster made me reconsider upgrading to an iPhone 4.
I usually wait a couple of gens before upgrading, and that got me thinking what would happen to my iPhone 4 in 18 months time.

I don't think it's planned obsolescence, but rather a focus on the next big thing that makes the previous models look like 'old sticks in the mud' and there is 0 QA effort dedicated to them.

Really looking into Android for my upgrades, the EU version of the droid X seems tempting, if it weren't for the non-hd screen...

C'mon Apple, at least tell us something, acknowledge that a big portion of your users have been bit by a QA error on your side, we're grown-up, we can understand that.

Here's something interesting... since I keep having the same problem(s) with my 3G since upgrading to OS 4, I contacted AppleCare - who couldn't fix it... went by the Apple Store - who couldn't fix it either. So they offered to replace it with another 3G... sounded like a good idea. Only one problem! I was told it would take 24-48 hours to get a replacement because the Apple Store didn't have anymore. Ok, no problem... I called yesterday and was told they still aren't in and that THEY would call me when it arrives... then it hit me... they don't have any because the 3G is a discontinued model. Well isn't that fancy... that means, ultimately, I'm going to have to BUY another phone... as much as I love(d) my iPhone - I didn't pay that money for it to frustrate me or be a problem... I bought it to do what I paid/pay for it to do - and now that it doesn't, at no doing of my own, I have to buy another one at full price (or at AT&Ts discounted rate) So now I'm debating, do I buy another one and potentially have more issues, or do I bail...hmmmm... I had a blackberry before and as dysfunctional of a phone OS that it was - it always worked...

I've been dealing with a slow 3G ever since I downloaded 4.0. There may be a select few whose 3G works fine after the upgrade, however, the majority of us are dealing with 5-8 seconds of waiting for Settings to open, seconds for the screen to flip, foreve until the keyboard pops up, slow reaction when typing.. Etc.. 4.0 was just not designed for th 3G. So, after reading many forums and seeing that this is, truly, and issue that Apple hasn't resolved nor admitted to agreeing that indeed it is slow, the only solution is to downgrade back to 3.1. Lifehacker has a very easy way of doing this. I did it last night and I'm finally happy with my phone again. Everything is back to instant! Rebooting, turning things off.. All that won't make your phone faster.. Downgrading will. At leas until Apple releases a 3G friendly version.

Desperate people out there... we have to stop complaining!! There is a solution and it is to downgrade to 3.1.3. This forum is full of links to it. If you want your 3G back to life, just downgrade.

We keep on saying that iOS4 shouldn't be targeted to 3Gs. It seems that for a lot of 3G users it works flawlessly. But for some of us it was the worst thing ever happened to our iPhones.

That said, there are two options: downgrade and keep on using your lovable but "old" 3G, or get the **** iPhone 4 which is beautiful but still has some issues. The choice is yours. Just stop complaining.

Cheers!

Man, I totally agree with you. That's what happens when mass production gives you $$$. You forget about your customers who are the ones that give you that $$$. Hopefully apple doesn't become into that, if it isn't there already.

All my point is that we have a solution for fixing our phones. If apple is doing good or not, is a different story. If iPhones start to be such a bad product, then sadly there are other brands with "cool" phones that we can switch to. ( I know!! so far none of them match iPhone! )

Peace!

There is no solution as 3.1 is not supported by Apple and I dont believe that there are owners of 3G without problems.

Just look at this new iphone 4 problem reported by TWAUs "rage inducing iphone 4 adventure"
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/08/09/my-excellent-fun-time-rage-inducing-iphone-4-adve nture/

I dont think people should stop complaining if they are correct and honest in what they are complaining about. I have said this before but I paid 600 euros for my 3G a year and a half ago and now, with IOS4, its totally laggy and sometimes dam unresponsive.

Surely they cant expect us to accept this.
