Slow iPhone 3G after iOS 4

Why is my 3G so slow?????????? I updated to 4.0 and my 3G has been having issues ever since. I really cant stand it! the rotation takes like 5 seconds, switching home screens is jumpy, the iPod crashes if you use the purchased link in the iTunes app. Folders open and close slowly, and when I lock it the lock noise plays then it plays like 3 more times. Settings also crashes!!!

is anyone else having these problems? Im really confused. It didn't do this with 3.1. I've also never done anything like jail breaking it....

I've tried restarting but nothing works, any help, Is it time for a 3GS?

I agree with all your points, man. Except #1. Read other posts about totally happy 3G users saying their iPhones are running EVEN FASTER than before. Besides the posts, I also have several friends happy with their 3Gs on iOS4 too. So it is NOT affecting all users.

Don't get me wrong, dude. If you read all my posts here, I complained A LOT here. But then just went back to 3.1.3. and I'm smiling at my 3G again. I'm just trying to help people here from having a heart attack.

Peace

I had a similar issue when I upgraded to 3.1.3 soon after my logic board was replaced. The company changed the logic board again and it was fine. I suspect that Apple sources their parts from different suppliers and the people not having the issue are using different internal components. As stated, os4 killed my phone and my sisters. I am happy now that I'm back to 3.1.3 and don't plan to upgrade the software until it is resolved.

I was tempted to get an iPhone 4 but it is just an incrimental upgrade from the 3g. Sure a few more bells and whistles but not worth $300 and a 2 year commitment to me.

I'm sorry. I don't mean to sound like an *ss but I'm kind of sick of hearing so many people throwing rocks to apple because they made a mistake, even though there is a solution to it.

Does that really make you that sick? Then go and spend 199 on the kick *ss iPhone 4 and stop whining.

Please don't read the posts if you are sick of their contents. This is a thread where people are having problems, and complain about them, with hope that Apple will address the issue.

Downgrading, as you suggest is not an Apple solution. Additionally, it requires third party software that, as far as I know, has not been peer reviewed (is the source available?). I wouldn't know what to so with the source if it was, so I'm no help there. Does it have root access to the phone? Does it install anything while it performs its "advertised" function? As far as I know, none of these questions can be answered accurately. Please correct me, by showing me proof, if I am wrong. BTW, I applaud the efforts that went into this software, and I love that people invest their valuable time to help others.

As far as your self described "title", stop criticizing people that want an Apple approved solution to this problem, and you won't sound like one...

Apple don't have a fix yet - that is totally unacceptable.

In the meantime our iPhones are DEFINITELY FIXABLE without 3rd party software and without jail-breaking.

I promise you I am no ultra-techy nerd but I fixed my iPhone a few days after OS4 completely ruined it. At the time it was certainly more luck than judgement but I managed to get my 3G working just fine with 4.0.0 and have since upgraded to 4.0.1 and then 4.0.2 with no problem... and with no jail-breaking. I did use RecBoot at the time but I now understand that I didn't need to go back to 3.1.3 in order to re-upgrade to a working 4.0.0 - it was an unnecessary step.

We shouldn't have to be doing this - Apple should be doing it for us - but there's no point in cutting our own noses off if there's something that might work right now.

Don't forget to complain in the right place: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

My phone constantly reboots now after updating to iOS 4! I've noticed it's because location services is on. As soon as I turn that off in the settings menu, it doesn't reboot! I am soooo frustrated that I can't just roll back to the previous OS.

Other things I've noticed since the update:

Battery Drain- Seems my iPhone thinks it's running on empty but once it reboots I'm magically back to more battery power according to the indicator.

Reboot during calls- I've had my phone reboot on me twice during a call for no apparent reason and this was AFTER I turned off location services.

Disappearing apps- Some of the apps I've downloaded have magically disappeared from my iPhone.

Terrible reception- The reception on my phone has gone from not so great to horrible. My husband's non-iPhone cell phone running on ATT will have reception at full bars and I'll have "no service". This doesn't make any sense whatsoever!

Have had all of the same issues as (most of) the rest of the World's 3G users, and was trying to install 3.1.3 today, but I had no option but to install 4.0.2 - serendipitously, it appears not to have (thus far) made my ailing 3G any worse than before, and if anything, it seems quite a bit faster. I'm basing this on; speed of Maps (painfully slow on 4.0.1), texting, Safari and Mail. No doubt it will all go to c0ck soon and the battery will die in 10 mins, but it's the most positive thing to happen to my 'still-in-contract' handset since June.
