Slow iPhone 3G after iOS 4

Why is my 3G so slow?????????? I updated to 4.0 and my 3G has been having issues ever since. I really cant stand it! the rotation takes like 5 seconds, switching home screens is jumpy, the iPod crashes if you use the purchased link in the iTunes app. Folders open and close slowly, and when I lock it the lock noise plays then it plays like 3 more times. Settings also crashes!!!

is anyone else having these problems? Im really confused. It didn't do this with 3.1. I've also never done anything like jail breaking it....

I've tried restarting but nothing works, any help, Is it time for a 3GS?

Yep... I agree with enigma... just downgrade your 3G... it'll make your life a lot easier... it's one less frustration to add to your list...

Understand this... the OS 4, no matter what Apple advertises, is not - and was not made for the 3G phones... The 3G is not equipped with enough memory to handle the OS workload (which explains having to download a memory sweep app - duh), the processor isn't fast enough to handle the additional operative "weight" of OS 4, - geez, do Ineed to continue? Ultimately is having "folders" really worth the frustration? Outside of that, I didn't see any new functionality on my 3G when I had OS 4 other than creating folders. Don't even mention the bar signal thing...

If you're having problems with OS 4, downgrade back to 3.1... if your 3G is running just fine with OS 4, then consider yourself one of the lucky ones because after 17 "pages" of posts - it's clear OS 4 bites on the 3G...

I have a lot of time to kill right now so bear with me... I'm puzzled, you say the security issue for the 3G is only fixed in OS 4, but if the "side effect" of having that "increased security" is decreased performance within the phone - meaning frequent crashes, freezing, and a whole dump truck full of other issues, does having that "increased security" outweigh a phone that went from being "Porsche like" to a Yugo worth it? (Young people Google Yugo and you'll get the point of the analogy)... I'm not aware how significant having the increased security is to the operation of my phone, but certainly if I can't use it like it's meant to be used, then it defeats the purpose of having this phone in the first place... which ultimately makes it subject to being replaced with a phone that does work...

Indeed! Guys, if you really want to be stuck complaining about this issue, feel free to do it. Do you really think apple doesn't know about this? Of course they do. The problem is that it is a random issue, meaning it DOESN'T happen to all 3G iPhones. Maybe that's why?

Complaining works for when there is no solution to something and you're expecting one.
But guess what...? there is an awesome solution for those out there with no luck with iOS4 on your 3Gs. That is DOWNGRADE! Period. Do you really think it's worth the frustration? Come on guys, the only new features on iOS4 are 3G is folders and unified inbox?

I'm sorry. I don't mean to sound like an *ss but I'm kind of sick of hearing so many people throwing rocks to apple because they made a mistake, even though there is a solution to it.

Does that really make you that sick? Then go and spend 199 on the kick *ss iPhone 4 and stop whining.

Get some peace of mind and enjoy your lives instead of being stuck in little "issues".

Peace.

I thought it was clear from the previous discussion that downgrading is considered a hack by Apple, and it should not be encouraged in these forums according to the terms of use. I reported your post to the administrators so they can remove it.

If Apple does not want our phones to work, I think we should respect that, and use them as paper weights.

1. No it's not a random issue, everyone with a 3G who upgraded to OS4 has the problem, some settings changes have helped reduce the problem and dumping applications that used to work fine have also helped, but that's hardly a "solution" is it??

2. You are correct, Apple did know about the problem, long before OS4 was released.

3. iPhone 4 was NOT recommended by most magazine reviews (including consumer reports) and EVERY internet review I've seen has either the EVO 4G or the Droid X as coming out ahead of the iPhone 4

4. Apple STILL have not provide a "downgrade" option to revert back to OS 3.x

5. There is NO update path for OS 3.x rendering all existing 3G owners stuck with a 3G phone that will no longer receive any updates including security updates

6. There is NO solution, why else do you think so many folks are complaining??

7. Apple fired senior Exec responsible for major component of the iPhone 4 because THEY messed up the iPhone 4

8. 3G phone was functioning perfectly well prior to OS4.x

So in a word, YES, people do have a right to complain, be angry, and throw rocks (lucky it's only rocks).

My wife moved to Droid X, and I'm still waiting for my EVO 4G while I try to keep myself from toss my iPhone 3G out the window (it's been a struggle). Too bad, because I "was" onboard with Apple's mobile devices, but the iPhone 4 problems and this OS4/3G issue pushed me away to another carrier (and based on the length of this thread has pushed many other Apple users away).

And yes Apple do need to know again and again and again. They should KNOW, so it doesnt' happen again, EVER! It's unfortunate that this has to be done this way in order to get Apple to pay attention, but sadly, that seems to be the only way Apple respond.

My phone is horribly slow after update. I have started emailing people more vs texting. Also using my favorite app, Google maps, is an exercise in patience I don't have. I have restored the phone completely, to no avail.

I would much rather have separate email and the quickness of the old OS. Is there any way to downgrade?

I'm not buying a new Iphone 4 if they sabotaged my old one in order to force an upgrade. I'd rather give HTC a try on a better network.
