Slow iPhone 3G after iOS 4

Why is my 3G so slow?????????? I updated to 4.0 and my 3G has been having issues ever since. I really cant stand it! the rotation takes like 5 seconds, switching home screens is jumpy, the iPod crashes if you use the purchased link in the iTunes app. Folders open and close slowly, and when I lock it the lock noise plays then it plays like 3 more times. Settings also crashes!!!

is anyone else having these problems? Im really confused. It didn't do this with 3.1. I've also never done anything like jail breaking it....

I've tried restarting but nothing works, any help, Is it time for a 3GS?

I would also think that would be the case, I suspect either someone flame-bating or a troller.

There is no way in **** that IOS4 works as well on a 3G as the 3.x versions. Even people with 3Gs are complaining and they have much faster phones with a lot more RAM.

Helping other people is good, saying that these procedures resolve the issues with the 3G is NOT helping as it is not true.

I have lived enough to know that anything is possible (in this case highly improbable) but I would tend to ignore theses guys.

After waiting nearly two months for Apple to at least acknowledge the problem...to no avail...I downgraded to 3.1.3. Only wish I had done it sooner. My 3G works better than it ever did. Followed instructions at Lifehacker.com. I don't trust Apple anymore and have No plans to "upgrade" my phone again. What a nightmare 4.0 was! Tried all of the "fixes". None worked. Grrr!

What have us 3G users done to Apple to deserve this kind of treatment? My phone is ridiculously slow. I bought the apple care package to ensure my phone works properly and now that seems that, that was a waste of money too. I spoke with apple to try and fix my issues. The rep. had me update my firmware and then our conversation went like this;

Him: With the new OS your phone will run slower, but it has many advantages you can take advantage of like multi-tasking and, oh - wait - your 3G doesnt do any of this.
Me: So the only "enhancement" I get is that of reduced performance?
Him: Well, yes.

Apple - If I wanted a slow piece of crap phone, I would have bought something else. Instead I bought a phone that I loved, you changed it - after I bought it - now I hate it and the best/permanent solution is to buy a new iphone? c'mon.

Sounds almost like buying a car, taking it to the dealer, having them "upgrade it" only to find that it runs for crap now and the best option is to go buy another car of the same model - only the newer version???

My last post was edited by "host"? Hmm... interesting....

Ok.. let me try a revised version of it....

If I sold a product to somebody, AND they went the extra mile to ensure the happiness with the product - aka apple care program. I then had said person bring this product (that they were completely happy with) in for an "upgrade" and the "upgrade" screwed up the product making it almost unbearable to use - I as the seller am tasked with making it right - Apple - whatchya gonna do about it???? And do it quick!

I just updated to iOS 4.1 (I'm a registered developer with Apple) I can tell you from my preliminary testing that this update will fix everyone's problems. I will have more updates soon, as I still feel it's a little early to tell. I'm not 100% sure if it's just the reboot which is included with the upgrade or if the 330MB software update actually made the difference. However, what I AM sure of is the following...

Text messaging is MUCH faster - the letters all type when I touch them. No more pressing the letter and waiting three seconds for each letter.

Mail is much faster. When I am in my mailbox and go from account to account or even from folder to folder, it responds right away instead of just sitting there, looking at me.

Web browsing is MUCH faster. I can actually navigate on the web now, with MULTIPLE pages open at the same time! I could not even have one page open prior to this update without it taking about 15 to 20 seconds for that page to load. While this page was loading, I was unable to pich to zoom also. Now, that has been fixed.

Switching between app pages is MUCH smoother. The last page will actually "bounce" back when you try to swipe to the right of it again. I haven't seen my p hone do that in about 2 months. I'm so happy!

When I press the home button, all of my app pages actually fly by and it takes me right to the home screen again. Just like it did prior to the 4.0 update!

As I said before, I will continue to test and let you all know if this is the end all fix for the sad 3G issue.

I had this issue as well and I finally found this article to downgrade back to iphone IOS 3.0.

http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/howdowngrade_your_iphone_3g_ios313

I just tried it and it brought me back to my old iphone. Nice to have it back without all the delays. I'll never upgrade it again!! I can live without folders and ibooks on my iphone!!

Good luck everyone!!

Well, I upgraded to 4.0 when first notified along with the rest of us suckers, then to 4.0.1 - tried all the suggestions, some of which only temporarily helped, lived with the problems and finally gave it up and downgraded back to 3.1.3. Decided not to go higher until the issues are truly resolved. I use my 3G mainly as a iPod and web surfer rather than phone/texter. So my problems were freezing/stuttering and eventually stopping music playlists as well as any web music apps. Hate to think what the phone/text problems would be like. I had planned to donate the 3G to hubby and get a 4 for myself later this year. It will be CRIMINAL if the 3G cannot keep up...I remain hopeful however that MOM still wants all the $$ they can get from us. I appreciate all the efforts and suggestions from the community; you're the best!

So.. here's where I am now. Had my "genius" appt. at the Apple store yesterday and the guy ran diagnostics on my phone... low and behold there were numerous system errors, batter errors, and unresponsive apps! I told him everything that was done to try and correct all of this... end result... my new phone will be here in 48hrs.

Hopefully this one works better, cuz I really do (despite the tone of most of my posts) like my phone - when it works properly that is!
