Why is my 3G so slow?????????? I updated to 4.0 and my 3G has been having issues ever since. I really cant stand it! the rotation takes like 5 seconds, switching home screens is jumpy, the iPod crashes if you use the purchased link in the iTunes app. Folders open and close slowly, and when I lock it the lock noise plays then it plays like 3 more times. Settings also crashes!!!
is anyone else having these problems? Im really confused. It didn't do this with 3.1. I've also never done anything like jail breaking it....
I've tried restarting but nothing works, any help, Is it time for a 3GS?
Let us know when you get a replacement for your 3G... because that's the same thing they told me when I took mine in with the iO4 on the phone... that was back in the beginning of August... guess what? Phone still hasn't "come in"... hence why I just took the phone back to 3.1... problem solved...
So, I have used the upgraded (4.1) 3G phone overnight. All of what I said yesterday is still good to go. And that is VERY exciting! The mail is still very responsive, texting is still fast and the navigation between pages is still smooth.
Here are some new findings...
Camera - The time from opening the camera to snap a picture is about 7 seconds. That is better than it has been since updating to 4.0 but not as fast as I remember when I first got the phone. Who knows, it might not be related. However, the photo library only takes about three seconds to get to my pictures. This is a HUGE improvement, as it was taking easily over 10 seconds to get to my library before the 4.1 upgrade.
Settings - since the update to 4.0, the "settings" was the way I would show people how crappy my phone had become. It would take more than 10 seconds to open my settings. It would show the background (small vertical lines) for what felt like eternity. Now, when I go to the settings page, it's up in less than 3 seconds! Amazing!
Alarm clock - this has been an issue for a little while, but I'm not sure if it's related or not. Sometimes, when snoozing the alarm clock will hang. When the time expires for the snooze it stays on the home screen. So, when you open the phone for something else, it says "alarm clock, snooze". This happened again this morning, but really, it's not a big deal. I should just get up on time 😉
I will give you more updates as I continue testing.
So far... AMAZING! I can't wait for it to be available for non developers so I can upgrade the girlfriend's phone. And for all of you to share the same happiness that I have! 🙂
The phone seems to be working ok. I did drop 2 calls yesterday, but I was in some bad coverage areas. I'm not convinced that it was an OS issue.
The email is working great! Fast and snappy, and that whole lag time when sending a message before it actually went is much improved. So far, I'm very happy with the email now.
Battery drain looks to be the same as it was before. I have been on my phone CONSTANTLY trying to hammer the apps and get it to crash (which no apps have quit on me yet since I upgraded yesterday). I just charged it fully about an hour ago while in a doc and playing some music. My phone always seemed to drain slower when it was full, and faster once it hit the 20% warning. But whatever... I'm so happy with the phone now that battery performance isn't an issue (unless it got worse, but I would notice that)
One thing to note... I did NOT upgrade to 4.0.2 when it came out. So, I can't compare any of the issues or results from an upgrade between 4.0.2 and 4.1 I upgraded from 4.0.1 to 4.1
One thing that I did notice is that the GPS seems to have a hard time pin pointing my location. I use my phone for geocaching, and it yesterday it had a hard time turning my location dot "blue". And when it did, it was only accurate to about 250 feet - (not much help in geocaching). The Maps application seemed to have a better grasp on where I was, so I'm trying to figure out if it's an application issue or an OS issue dealing with the GPS chip. I will continue to test and let you know.
All good news. The dropped calls are one thing, I was more worried about the lags answering calls or placing them.
Well the 4.01 to 4.1 comparison is good enough. 4.0.1 was just the PDF fix anyway.
The GPS/Location thing might still be related to Apple switching to their own system of location finding that coincided with the 4.0 rollout and not 4.0 itself.
With this new update, 4.02, I was hoping for my phone to be back to normal, but no. I went from loving my phone, to hating it. I use my calender and contacts about 50 times a day at work, and it feels like i'm loosing 1h a day just waiting for this thing to respond.
I done as you said - Iphone 3G now working a lot faster. Can carry on waiting for the white Iphone 4 to be released in November now. Thanks for that... from very happy Iphone 3G user
this is affecting almost all 3G users - I was out last night @ an annual football pool and every 3G user (including myself) in the room are having the same issues. the phone has slowed so much several applications are now useless and everything from sending texts to receiving calls has dramatically slowed.
the ONLY way Apple will respond is if enough media gets involved the stock starts to react negatively so instead of wasting your time on this blog email/call/write your local (preferably national) journalists to start writing on the subject. eventually the business journalists will catch on and that may get Apple's attention...
@ theboltt - From my experience and posts today and yesterday, please hold out until the public release of iOS4.1 This has pretty much fixed my 3G phone, back to the way it was before the 4.0 upgrade! There was an article from engadget that outlined what the fixes were, and one of them was specifically the 3G performance issue. Clearly they have addressed it, becuase it's working great now! I think I read that the public release would be next week. Please DON'T follow the guides and downgrade, you WILL lose all your contacts etc. This 4.1 upgrade allows you to keep everything. Please pass the word.
"Dude, you should first read the news and the latest posts here. Apple ALREADY announced iOS 4.1 saying it will fix 3G issues."
Yea right!!! Sarcasm here
I have updated to iOS 4.1 and my phone is still slower than (well... I can't use that language descriptor here) let's just say its really slow still and crashes plenty.
Wish they would repost the old 3.1.2 OS and let us reload that.
Hi, try this: Settings-General-Home Button-Spotlight Search
De-select all spotlight search options. Power down the phone. Re-boot. Go back to Spotlight Search and re-select the options you want. You may have to do that again...or not, but my 3G has been back to its pre-iOS4 speed, ever since this re-setting of Spotlight, more than a month ago now. I hope it works for you.
