Slow iPhone 3G after iOS 4

Why is my 3G so slow?????????? I updated to 4.0 and my 3G has been having issues ever since. I really cant stand it! the rotation takes like 5 seconds, switching home screens is jumpy, the iPod crashes if you use the purchased link in the iTunes app. Folders open and close slowly, and when I lock it the lock noise plays then it plays like 3 more times. Settings also crashes!!!

is anyone else having these problems? Im really confused. It didn't do this with 3.1. I've also never done anything like jail breaking it....

I've tried restarting but nothing works, any help, Is it time for a 3GS?

Macbook Late '07, iPhone 3G, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

I upgrade my phone to the OS4, what a big mistake. Texting, email replying, etc has slowed way down. Very frustrating. Apple will not allow you to downgrade. Did you catch that, they WILL NOT ALLOW, I called the local Apple store and asked if they could downgrade. Simple answer is no.

I should not have to jail break or hack to go back to OS3, this should be an simple process since OS3 was the original operating system that came with the phone. Every computer related device I've owned always have/had the option to go back to the original OS, I don't understand why this is not an option with the Iphone.

To my understanding this is Apple's way in getting their current customers to upgrade to the Iphone 4. Basically live with the frustration or move to the Iphone 4.

I've dealt with the crappy service from AT&T just because of the Iphone features, however with the latest lack of support from Apple it is no longer worth it. My company has decided to strat transitioning over to a different carrier, since a lot of new phones have simular features the headache of dealing with At&t and Apple is no longer worth the expense.

I tried clicking on the link you provided in your post, but I am denied access to it. Any suggestions? I am new to this. When I upgraded my phone software, all my audio sounds quit working. My phone doesn't ring when I get a call or text message. I already have a boatload of time involved in trying to fix this. My apple experience is turning sour very quickly. I'm sorry I ever bought this phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My 3G is pretty much unusable now after the IOS4 upgrade. Yes, I have restarted and restored. You tap a button and wonder if it activated, so you tap i again and find out you've tapped it twice or tapped another button you haven't seen yet. The IOS4 is a 3G killer. I just want to throw my phone in the ocean. This is absurd.

Hi,

I had exactly the same issues as everyone. The main issue I found is lack of DRAM. On OS 3.1.3 I could free up around 45MB using Memory Info (before apple removed that feature from the Apps Store - what's THAT about?). On IOS 4 that dropped to a max of 16MB, but regularly was in single figures.

I persevered for about 2 weeks but the bad performance definitely outweighed the good additions from IOS 4. There are loads of tutorials on YouTube on how to downgrade to OS 3.x.x

The one I followed was on http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-downgrade-your-iphone-from-ios-4-back-3-1-3-37 7414/

The prerequisites are:

1. A downloaded OS 3.1.3 (or 3.1.2 or whatever) - just Google it again...

2. Download RecBoot to force your iPhone out of Recovery Mode once finished

The whole process took less than 30 minutes and I now have a zippy iPhone 3G running OS 3.1.2 again. I didn't have to downdrage my iTunes either, I'm still running 9.2 Great!

Good luck!

After doing some reading about all the problems with ios4, I was skeptical about upgrading on my 3G. However, after reading that it could be downgraded, I took a chance. Before upgrading, I put my phone into DFU mode, then RESTORED not upgrade. I also set it up as a new phone. My phone runs great with the new OS.

I did back up things like notes, calenders, addresses, photos, etc in iTunes, and re-synced them after the restore. I've had zero problems, and the phone is very responsive. My phone was purchased from the at&t store August 2009. Hope this info helps

Im having the same problem. I went to the Apple store they suggested restoring. Which did not work. Asked if I can go back to the previous operating system and they said not possible. They are aware of the problem and even admitted to it. They better come up with a fix soon. Or maybe they just want us to buy a new phone.

Mine has completely bogged down since the upgrade as well. I'm really disappointed in Apple with this issue. My iphone 3G was great and worked fine and getting folders is nice but definitely not worth the aggravation of how sluggish my phone is now.

Almost reminds me of another company that would always cause issues when a new operating system was released... Hope this isn't the start of something bad...
