Slow iPhone 3G after iOS 4

Why is my 3G so slow?????????? I updated to 4.0 and my 3G has been having issues ever since. I really cant stand it! the rotation takes like 5 seconds, switching home screens is jumpy, the iPod crashes if you use the purchased link in the iTunes app. Folders open and close slowly, and when I lock it the lock noise plays then it plays like 3 more times. Settings also crashes!!!

is anyone else having these problems? Im really confused. It didn't do this with 3.1. I've also never done anything like jail breaking it....

I've tried restarting but nothing works, any help, Is it time for a 3GS?

tried the "turning off spotlight" thing... it worked in some regards, but not with texts. Texts still "appear" 8-13 seconds after clicking view, map app is a laggard, typing on the keyboard will still occasionally freeze for more than several seconds. On a couple of occasions, it actually froze the phone... Today, I actually screamed at the phone for moving so slowly when trying to use the map... I actually made it to my destination (based on the verbal direction I got and landmarks to look for) before the map actually worked... that's unacceptable for a phone of this caliber - and cost.

What makes this more aggravating is that I'm stuck with the OS that doesn't work for my phone. I could risk hacking it to go backwards, but sometimes that works and sometimes you end up with a paperweight because the phone is now "broken..."

SOOOO...try turning off spotlight... that will help speed up the phone, but don't expect it to help much... and if you're humming right along with OS 4 on your phone, then peace and blessings to you...the vast majority of us are dealing with a phone that's frustrating. I didn't buy a phone to frustrate me, nor am I paying for a service that doesn't work...

Come'on Apple... I hope you have people on overtime working on this because this is bad...

The comparison is not quite fair because if I install Widows 7 on and old machine and it runs worse than it did with XP I can reformat and reinstall XP. How can I go back to OS3 on my phone? I intend to buy a new phone but would like to have the old one work like it did prior to OS4 installing OS4. The only real benefit OS4 vs 3 on a 3G is folders and I knew that prior to installing. Folders is great but I lived without for 2 years.

When I upgraded to ios4, the backup/restore took hours and afterward the phone was unusable it was so sluggish. A couple of times the phone crashed (Restarted!) when answering a call. I was going crazy, ranting about designed obsolesce, and well, you can imagine...

I followed the steps that many others have mentioned in this thread:

1. Right click on the device in iTunes and backup
2. hit Restore factory settings button on summary page
3. Restore from backup after restore factory settings

All is well again. 🙂

My 3G has been killed entirely by iOS4. Literally it takes 10 seconds to load up SMS, 10 seconds to launch the calendar, keyboard typing lags, mail application is slow, internet browser is almost unusable, I'm even UNABLE to hit the stop loading button quite often ! In two words - it's truly horrible. I'm installing now 4.01 and will see what gives.

But I gotta say, I'm somewhat disappointed at Apple at this moment. I like their products, bit I feel they're not honest here, I don't like to be a milking cow.

=> Install iOS4 and be forced to buy a new iPhone ? I'll probably get an iPhone 4, but I don't like to be FORCED into that choice.

=> I was thinking of getting an iPad one of those days only to find out it has a place for gyroscope processor but it's not there. So buy an iPad now and then buy a v2 6 months later because half the new games will use gyroscope ?

I think this isn't very honest and correct towards us, the customers, we like to GIVE you our money with a smile, we dont't like to be milked like that.

Thanks for firing whoever takes those decisions, because this is short term winning at the cost of long term losing your client base.
