Iphone iOS 4 Contact Birthday Date Bug.

Hello,

Every time I add a contact and add their birthday the date of the birthday automatically moves by one day.

For example, I will select someones birthday as the 23rd of march and click done but the contact birthday shows 24th. Even if I select a random date say 1st June, it will say 2nd.

When I go into the calendar app and display the birthday calendar the birthdays are right though, it will have a notification as a birthday on the 23rd.

I have done a fresh restore from a backup and as a new iphone, still I have the error.

I'm thinking that the contact list in iOS4 is set to a specific timezone different from my phones timezone as it adjusts it for a day. I live in New Zealand and my timezone settings are set to Auckland, New Zealand, even in the calendar time zone. When I change my timezone settings to somewhere in the USA it automatically changes the contacts birthdays to the correct date. When I change it back it adjusts te birthdays by a day again. This would be correct as the 23rd in USA would be the 24th here but my contacts are not in a different timezone so why does my iphone think they are? Even if a add a new contact it still changes the birthday date.

Any help would be great.

Here is hoping that I am right. I just installed the latest firmware and it seems to have fixed the problem. Well, sort of. I changed my son's birthday to the correct one (was 6 days earlier) and this time it hasn't changed back, like it has before. The only problem now is (unless I spoke too soon) that it didn't change back automatically to the correct one, which means that I have no way of knowing if all the birthdays for all my friends that I have carefully documented for years, may now all be wrong. I have no record anywhere else.

I have noticed for me that the birthdays are showing up in the birthday calendar in iCal, and Calendar on the phone on the right days, but just displaying wrong in the Contacts app on the phone.
If I add a birthday to on the right day to a contact, it saves it, synchs to GMail (and GMail synchs to my Mac Address Book) with the right day, but displays 1 day late in Contacts in the phone.

I Think the birthday calendar is calculated and displayed on iCal and Calendar individually, as changes to the Contacts app show up straight away in the iPhone Calendar, so it is not just synched across from iCal like other static calendars I have subscribed.

Additional:
If I create the birthdate in GMail contacts - it is the correct date and synchs to Address Book on my Mac correctly, but shows 2 days ahead in Contacts on iPhone
If I create the date in Contacts in iPhone, it displays the date one day ahead of what I entered, and synchs the date 1 day behind in GMail Contacts and iCal on OS X.

From now own I will simply only add the birthdays in GMail, and remember they are two dates out in contacts, but display correctly in teh calendars.

It cannot be a Gmail problem, since it affects people who are NOT syncing with Gmail (for instance I am syncing with Outlook 2007).

It is more likely related to the new Birthday calendar not having Daylight Savings Time functionality built in.

I am getting so ****** off with Apple's lack of response to this thread and the support ticket I raised that I am going to dump my iPhone and go over to the dark side: Nexus One

In Address Book on my iMac (an i7 model running OS X 10.6.4) I've got a birthday of 31 August 1996 loaded for my nephew. In iCal on the iMac the correct date shows up in the birthday calendar.

On my iPhone 4, the birthday shows up in the calendar on the correct date, ie: 31 August 1996. However, when I go into Contacts on the iPhone it shows a birthday of 2 September 1996.

Even more bizarre, on my iPad, Contacts shows a birthday of 1 September 1996 while the calendar shows it correctly as 31 August 1996.

I've tried resynching but it makes no difference.

On the iPad, I can manually change the birthday in Contacts to the correct one but as soon as I do that, the date showing in the Calendar changes to 30 August.

On the iPhone, if I try to manually change the birthday date in Contacts the edit screen always shows 1 day behind what the edit scroll wheel shows.

I can sometimes replicate the problem by entering dummy contacts but other times it seems to work correctly.

It appears to be definitely a bug in setting a time zone for NZ.

Everything is perfectly fine on my Mac Address Book and iCal.

However, on my iPhone 3G (iOS4.0.2), the dates in the contact list appear to be two days later, but only in the contacts list, and only when the time zone is set to NZ. For example, a birthday of September 15 appears as September 17 in the contacts app (on the calendar it appears as 15 still). If I change the time zone to Australia, for example, the contacts app displays the correct date.

Thus, I believe it's an issue with how the contacts app chooses a date to display. The date in the entry is 'correct', but when you change the time zone to be NZ, instead of using the current date and +1, then -1, it adds 2 or something.

On my iPad, the date is out by one only.

An odd effect on the iPhone calendar is that some birthdays also appear twice on the calendar - one on the correct day, and one on the day after.
