iOS4 mishandling email atachments

I upgraded to iOS4 early this afternoon. Since then I have been unable to view any email attachments, be it PDF, XLS, or DOC. All I get to see is a low res view of the first page as if it were a picture attachment. There is no icon of an attached file, just a picture.

Another post suggested Stanza might be interfering... but I deleted it as well as another app called Mobile Toolz (office suite) just in case. Still I can not view attachments.

I tried force quitting the mail app and restarting my phone. Now I'm in the process of re-syncing the phone to iTunes... but I have low expectations of that solving the problem.

Any ideas?

I solved the PDF attachment problem by:

1) Connecting my iPhone to iTunes
2) Removing Stanza in iTunes and do a Sync (thus removing Stanza from my iPhone)
3) Restarting my iPhone (see note below)

Now i can open PDF files in emails, and also in QuickOffice (which was also impossible before removing Stanza)

Note:
Most of you know, but restarting is:
Press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simultaneously for a least 10 seconds (ignore the slider) but release both the buttons when the Apple Logo appears on the black background. Now wait for the iPhone to restart.

I just tried the above mentioned fix, except mine is working fine after only steps 1) and 2). Strange, because I've removed Stanza before, but only by deleting it from the iPhone itself. Unchecking it in the Apps section of iTunes seems to do something special. Possibly no need to reset anything.

FYI: Earlier today I tried removing several apps from the home screen of the iPhone and also did a reset (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings) without deleting any data/media. Then I restored from a backup, and iTunes re-synced the apps I had removed before the reset. Still, the problem persisted until I removed Stanza through iTunes.

The problem on my phone was an app called Air Sharing Pro.
iTunes kind of clued me in. It shows the app in a separate pane of the apps tab on my iPhone for File Sharing.

I deleted the Air Sharing app from my phone (after first backing up the files I had stored in it). Instantly ALL of my email attachments are visible again.

I even reinstalled the Air Sharing app and they still work.

This tells me that there is some sort of a conflict with an API in the upgrade process from iPhone OS 3.x to iOS 4. If you have any apps that file share or read PDFs that were on your phone when you upgraded to iOS 4 remove them and see what happens. I'll bet your problem will be fixed too.

Ok: so I just solved the problem on my iPhone 3GS.

I connected my iPhone to iTunes, deleted Stanza and synchronized (thus deleting Stanza on my iPhone). Then I clicked on "Restore" on the main screen, which pops up when you connect your phone. After iTunes set the phone up again, I was asked if I wanted to restore my data from a backup. I did that and voilà: Now everything works (I can open pdfs in Mail), plus my data, so e.g. also gamesafes, are completely there.

Hope this helps some...
