iOS4 mishandling email atachments

I upgraded to iOS4 early this afternoon. Since then I have been unable to view any email attachments, be it PDF, XLS, or DOC. All I get to see is a low res view of the first page as if it were a picture attachment. There is no icon of an attached file, just a picture.

Another post suggested Stanza might be interfering... but I deleted it as well as another app called Mobile Toolz (office suite) just in case. Still I can not view attachments.

I tried force quitting the mail app and restarting my phone. Now I'm in the process of re-syncing the phone to iTunes... but I have low expectations of that solving the problem.

Any ideas?

I have an iPhone 3GS, and had the same problem. PDF attachments appeared as an image of the first page, and there was no way to read beyond the first page or open it in iBooks.

Doing a fresh OS install (or restoring to original settings after upgrading) fixes the problem. I originally upgraded to OS4 and had a couple of other issues that were bothering me. Last night I decided to restore and manually reinstall everything again, and that has rid me of all those nasty bugs, including the PDF attachment one.

My wife could not open a PDF on her iPhone, but I was able to open it on mine. Neither of us have Stanza.

The other issue that I have had is when I try to e-mail a photo that I have taken with the iPhone while it is vertical, the photo is rotated 90 degrees in the e-mail. If I take it with the iPhone with the top turned to the left, the photo comes through normal. If I turn it the other way the photo is inserted to the e-mail upside down. Anyone have this problem?

I had this problem with PDFs and DOCs. Opening DOCs was fixed in my case by an update of Readdle Docs. Ever since I updated that app, DOC files open correctly in Mail and I have the option to open them in Readdle Docs. However, for PDFs the problem persists. I therefore assume that it must be something about the way thirdparty apps interact with Mail and hope the issue will disappear as more apps get updated to iOS4 compatibility.

Deleting Stanza alone did not do it for me.
The trick seems to be turning off "load remote images" in the Preferences under Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then check the mail and see pdfs magically open correctly and in whatever app you deem appropriate.
After which you can return to the prefs and turn "load remote images" back on if you wish, and, amazingly pdfs still behave properly in mail.
