Just downloaded and installed the OS4 for my 16gb Iphonr 3G had no errors or anything installing it like some of the other guys have posted BUT!.... once installed my iphone has been very slow only word i can use to discribe it is "lagy" my iphone has only got like 6gb out of the 16gb used so it shouldnt be that i dont have many apps installed But why this lag? Once i click the home button to open the unlock screen 20 seconds later it will finally open i cant use my phone until this is fixed.
Mail: Just checked my mail inbox to find 2000+ emails which i have already deleted on the iphone and now ive got to go through and tick every single email to delete it wheres the "select all" button? the OS before OS 4 had this? and no way of getting emails which i have deleted back? once i click delete they are gone forever unlike the old OS it would put them in a deleted folder which i can click "empty" so it would be good if they could bring that back in the next update.
It has been suggested that a reset of the device should speed things up. It has only made a very slight improvement. Still slower than previous OS version. Wish I could go back to that for now.
I too upgraded, and lost evcerything! all my notes, all my old emails, all of my important things! guttted! its an iphone 3G i have, and now it runs sooo slow and I have yet to get edge or 3g to work! not very happy to be honest.
I hope there is a fix soon! my last iphone back up for some reason is Aug 2009, not a clue why.
so all my important stuff is lost forever. Any advice?
Clearly Apple is the most overrate brand ever. 5 Hours trying to update to OS4 and barely at 1/6 of back up process. Not going to far, look at their site, keeps freezing! Yes sure, Apple is "Better" than Mcsft. Lol. Unbelievable!
I have a 3G and I'm trying to update to OS4 however whenever I click update I get a message that says "this version of iTunes 9.1.1 is the current version. Why is this happening?? This is my first time here on this forum and now that I'm reading all of the difficulties people are having- I'm thinking maybe I should update the OS anyway.
I have a 3g 8GB and I am finding a lot of stuff slow, and just as I am reading this page now, I am getting a little better speed out of my messages app, but everything seems so slow. I am not very happy with this, and I am debating to restore back to 3.1.3. It ran a lot faster on the 3G
I too upgraded to ios4. What a mistake that was, (S.L.O.W.) Apps are slow, texting I can actually type faster than it can put the letters on the text. And I am no typists.
Called apple and they have not heard of this, wanted me to do a restore, decided I am going to try to restore to 3.1.3. Also when talking to apple I got the impression that 3G is the thing of the past. And if you dont like the speed of the 3G with ios4 you might need to upgrade. That was just my impression, I could be wrong, they might spend thousands of dollars for a fix..
Recommendation to all: DO NOT UPGRADE TO OS4 if you have the 3G. You will be sorry you did. Just keep your old operating system until all the kinks get worked out with Apple. Wish I could have read this first.
I've got exactly the same problems: no 3G, slow phone, lost all contact pictures, not possibility to go back to an iOS 3. Please fix these bugs a.s.a.p! I'm in terrible need of 3G, that's why I bought this phone.
I am currently updating my 3G Iphone and having the same problems backup has been going for about 2hours but think i am going to cancel now after reading all this doesnt seem worth it.
I have a 3G and I cannot even download the update. When I start the download, it prompts for the back up; i click ok and then the backup hangs up after about twenty minutes and my cpu crashes.
My phone has been rendered almost useless. I have a 8GB 3G (which I unknowingly bought for $299 2 months prior to the release of the 3GS). I cannot listen to music and do anything else or the music skips constantly. In addition to the music skipping, my browser will freeze - its so laggy that moving it around takes forever to adjust, and even typing emails/texts, I'll type a sentence and then the phone catches up 10-15 seconds later...then I have to go back and fix my mistypings (anyone else's phone thinks you really like using the word "duck" all the time?? Dear iPhone, I cuss a lot, the lack of the word duck in my vocabulary is intentional) which is a huge pain b/c my cursor function isn't quite working right. At least with the update, I know what words are spelled wrong, aside from duck, which isn't the intended word I intended to use 😉
Meh. I really, really don't want to be locked into another 2 year contract with AT&T, but I still have almost a year left...I'm not sure if I can deal with this for that long - I use my iPhone for business.
In my 20 years history with an Apple's product this is the worst upgrade ever. My 3G iPhone was working great until I upgraded it with OS4. After 56 hr of waiting for the 280Mb to be finally loaded to my phone (sic!) I finally have a privilege to personally experience this OS NIGHTMARE: from incredible slow respond, screen locking and constant freezing in all windows to now frequently interrupted calls. Under all circumstances I would consider this OS to be a substantial downgrade or perhaps just a bad joke. To make it worst, according to Apple Tech Support, there is now way back. I want to move back to the previous version since OS4 have nothing to offer for 3G users beside turning a perfectly good product in to a pile of crap. Did Apple test this upgrade prior sending it out? Why can we go back?
