iOS4 update - now iPhone now reboots during phone call

After about 4 or 5 mins in a phone call my iPhone 3GS reboots itself for no apparent reason. this did not happen before I put the iOS4 update on it. Is the some way I can stop this happening, or revert back to the previous version?

I tried to find the origin of the problem, here's what I came up with:
When putting the Phone on Speaker Mode during the call, the problem didn't seem to occur, I managed to hold a call for about 19 minutes without a reboot. While doing this, I keept the screen from going dark by touching it regurlaly.

However (!!), the moment I put my finger over the 3 sensors on the top left on the Phone (those being responsible for locking the touchscreen while having the phone at your ear) the phone instantly froze and restarted.

So using the speakers on calls might be a temporary fix to this problem, but Apple needs to fix iOS 4, since this never happenend on any previous software. Let's keep this thead alive, we need this fixed asap!

Oh and let me know if my suggestion works for you too, and especially if your phone reboots too when activating the sensors in the top left after about 10 minutes.

I am having the same problem with my 3GS 32GB. iPhone is origonally unlocked and worked fine on 3.1.3. After upgrading to iOS4 i cant make phone calls longer that approx. 15 mins. When connected to my bluetooth handsfree kit in the car, the iPhone was freezing totally at the first incoming call. I am not happy at all with that. What more bugs could we find in the OS4 when not even a phone call is possible without trouble?
btw. the upgrade process was done without any errors or problems

I took mine to our 'Local' Apple store and they have ordered me a replacement phone, unfortunately they had none in stock, it's a remanufactured one but Apple refurb stuff is as god as new if not better. Hopefully should have it within 3 or so days.

If I had taken it to O2 it would have been away a couple of week, but I think they maybe lend one, not sure.

I hope the new one does not do it when I upgrade that, maybe I won't until this is sorted out!

I'm trying to reproduce my crash but I'm not 25 minutes into outgoing call and no crash yet. Also tried to find out if some software in the background might have caused the crash.

Could you list programs you were running while crashing and programs with push enabled, if we might find a common thing between all of us?

Multitasking (not sure but probably):
- Twitter (Tweetie)
- Colloquy

Push:
- BeejiveIM
- Email

Other:
- Bluetooth headphones with HF active

Also, how is your cell coverage? Mine swaps between 3G and EGPRS.

Hi all - yet another person with the random "on call" reboot issue. After a full day's research today I tried a couple of things to see if I could resolve the problem.

First of all, a hard reset and a re-install of IOS4/restore of previous backup. This did not fix the problem and the first test call I made was dropped after 4m 36s.

Secondly I tried a full DFU restore using an alternative copy of the IOS4 binary downloaded from another source on the internet (same size and checksum as the iTunes downloaded version). No applications installed from the restore this time and the test call dropped out at 10m 46s.

Third test was as above, DFU restore using alternative IOS4 binary but all applications restored. Test call dropped out after 10m 26s.

Fourth test was DFU restore from iTunes downloaded IOS4 file. No apps restored. Test call dropped out at 7m 14s.

All in all it does NOT look like any of the wipe/restore methods fix this problem. This issue DID NOT exist running 3.1.3 - I have used the phone for a number of business calls for a variety of call lengths up to and over 1 hour in length with no issues.

Apple, if you're reading this - THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE and a fix is needed as soon as possible. Ridiculous.

No water damage on my phone and the (original) battery is in good condition, and had plenty of charge when it crashed. The phone was lying on hard surface (I was using headset) so it wasn't heat-related problem either.

Just like about everyone else, I think this is a software issue with iOS4 because my phone never crashed with earlier versions.
