Lower speaker volume after iOS4 update ?

I'm not crazy. I'm 20 and have great hearing. I'm used to using my iPhone as a "shower radio" and now after the 4.0 update the volume of my phone is decreased. I've checked the settings and the volume lock (or whatever it is called) is not set. Anyone having the same issue ?
I've searched, looked through some of the problem threads but have seen nothing..

3GS, iOS 4, POS

Same here.
I have the iphone 3gs and ever since i got the update, when i try to listen 2 music from the speaker, the volume is missing 1/4. the volume increases normally but once i get a little over half way it doesn't get any louder. This is Bull **. But when i listen 2 a ringtone it is just as loud as it was before and my phone calls. only the ipod part is being affected.

I have the same issue while listening on my car stereo and connecting to the headphone jack. I don't think this is a new feature as I noticed the volume would increase sporadically to almost normal levels then drop down again. I'm thinking this is a bug and I hope Apple fixes it soon! I've tried resetting the volume limit to make sure it's truly off. I'll try disabled the equalizer this afternoon to see if that improves the situation.

Same issue with me too. I don't listen to it through the speaker but I have noticed a big drop in playback volume through my earphones. I used to have an iPod Nano and when I got my iPhone (on 3.1.3) at the time, I noticed a significant increase in volume between the Nano and the iPhone and was very pleased by this as I thought the Nano was a bit low for me and not enough bass.

Since updating to OS 4.0, the volume and reduced to what my Nano used to be and the sound is a LOT flatter. I hate it when any manufacturers do this. I love my iPhone but unless this is fixed soon, I'll be buying another MP3 player with louder volume and will use that in future, which will mean Apple will lose a valuable iTunes customer.

I've noticed this too - workaround is definitely to turn off EQ - My guess is that Apple lowered the volume on music to accomodate for the EQ, as in all the previous iOS releases, any EQ setting gave massive distortion and crackling.

Yes I believe it's affecting everyone ... I noticed that as soon as I played a song and it also makes it sound dissorted. That's the main reason why I went back to 3.1.3 and now everything is back to normal. The multi tasking is still not working great as all the apps need to support that, so for now I'm fine with my 3.1.3 till they release an update to fix that problem
