Lower speaker volume after iOS4 update ?

I'm not crazy. I'm 20 and have great hearing. I'm used to using my iPhone as a "shower radio" and now after the 4.0 update the volume of my phone is decreased. I've checked the settings and the volume lock (or whatever it is called) is not set. Anyone having the same issue ?
I've searched, looked through some of the problem threads but have seen nothing..

3GS, iOS 4, POS

I have the same problem with. I loved listening to podcasts through my iphone speakers with the iphone upside down in my front shirt pocket so the speaker would be facing upward. The volume used to be so good that I could turn the volume down and still hear the podcast clearly, but after updating to iOS4, I have the volume turned all the way up and can barely hear my podcasts through the speaker. Now earbuds are mandatory. So sad. So sad. It was my favorite feature of the iPhone. I hope they fix it.

Hey mate,
I've got the same problem, I've left my own thread about it on here, no one has replied so don't think it's affected everyone...my sound is flatter and quiter in all EQ modes through my wired headphones since update inc loudness which is now quieter than Flat mode! Wierd!

Yep, same thing here!!! I always kept it on the "loudness" setting in the ipod settings. Now, the "loudness" is super quiet, and the only way to make it louder is to turn off the EQ!

EVERYONE tell apple here:

This is widespread issue after the IOS 4 update. This happened to my 3Gs, and my Iphone 4 with IOS 4 installed. EQ settings are virtually useless now.

Howdy,
Sweet! I'm not crazy either!!! I'm having the same problem with my iPod Touch after the update so yesterday morning, prior to finding this forum, I opened a bug report thru Apple's product support website. Not sure if that was the right place...but I would've had to wait a week to get an appointment at the local Genius bar just to tell someone there about it...

Don't know if anyone else here may have sent something in, but if/when I hear back I'll post an update.

Steve

God bless Chimpanzeenator for the only sensible post in this thread. The only person in this whole discussion to realize that the EQ in the iOS * WAS * useless BEFORE the volume reduction due to DISTORTION.

I think i might stop buying apple products. I don't want everybody to think that i am an idiot and deaf on top of it.

we're laughing at this thread over at head-fi.org right now.

Ok, Neurosport... I don't get it... So the ONLY solution is reducing the volume for all aplications? And even if it is, what about the millions of users who don't give a dam.n about the distortion and just want to hear their musics as loud as possible?

I get what audiophiles (a.k.a. boring people. No offense.)think about music, quality, bit rate, head phones and everything... but I don't think people who are complaining about this particular problem are audiophiles.

Prior to the upgrade to iOS4, my 3GS EQ worked perfectly with 3.13 as did the audio volumes. Now I'm ahem screwed like everyone else on this thread.

Thanks to Mozkid for the suggestion of recycling (moving it to far left then far right) the volume limiter, worked perfectly for me, it was if the volume limit had been set by default to about 75%.

Thought either I was going deaf or something had happened to my headphones.

Don't think it was anything to do with the EQ as per most of the discussion in this thread.

I used 1-888- FACETIME to test video calling this afternoon and i had a volume falloff when switching form the cell cll to the video call.... The rep immediately put me through to a tech specialist who asked me to do a reset on the phone (home + power button until you see the white apple on the screen).. and then we tested again.... the volume is fine down and remembers my preference when the phone is shut of (before it was resetting to he default each time I shut the phone off)....

I have also noticed playback from the iPod is much quieter than before. I have my iPhone connected to an RF receiver in my car and used to have the car radio volume set to 12 now I have it on 22 to hear my music even turned all the way up to full I can hear the traffic above my music!!! Come on Apple fix this I want to hear my music as loud as I want.

just adding my name to list of those experiencing sound level problems. the output volume increases/decreses sporadically, usually when a new song begins, both when i have my iPhone 3GS connected to my vehicle's stereo via a Monster adapter cable and also when connected to my home stereo system via the iPhone dock. i've messed around with different combinations of EQ/Sound Check settings but haven't found any permanent solution, although pressing pause then play again seems to cause the volume to reset to the proper level for the current song, but it eventually changes again.
