Error 37 after iOS 4 upgrade

I upgraded this morning to iOS4 on my second generation iTouch. After the download, the OS started installing on my device and right before the end it popped up error 37 and it said there was a error and I had to restore. After 5 restores it always stops with that message. My iTouch doesn't even turn on now, is downgrading my best option at this point?

I had same thing happen to me. After getting extremely mad at apple store rep for telling me that my phone is broke and I need to buy a new phone. I went online to get help . ]
Heres what I did and it worked for me . I erased all apple related softwares from my computer I believe 6 total ( including Bejour) .
Then reboot my pc and reinstal Itunes .
Put your Iphone in DFU mode or DSU ( sorry im not sure of the name)
Hold power and home button for 10 seconds-then release power and keep holding home for 10 more seconds.
After that Itunes should prompt you to recover your iphone.

Good luck

Thanks

My ipod DIED during the first sync after updating to iOS 4. I got a sync error, then when I tried to do a restore, I got a restore error. Trying to restore again resulted in a blank screen, no response to any buttons, nothing. But I just got it ressurected, and here is how I did it. You need to get your ipod into DFU mode. To get it into DFU mode, have iTunes running, then plug your ipod into the PC. You will probably get a 'usb device not recognized' message from windows. Ignore it. Then hold the sleep/wake and home buttons for 10 seconds. Then release the sleep/wake button and keep holding the home button for another 10 seconds. iTUnes should now recognize your ipod and say that it has found an ipod that is in recovery mode. The only thing you can do is click the restore button. When I first tried this, it looked like the ipod restored, but just before the status bar under the apple icon on the ipod finished loading, iTUnes throws this 'unexpected error (9)' message, and then gives you the restore screen again. So what I had to do was turn off Zone Alarm (apparently there is some conflict with ports or some such nonsense with 3rd party security software). After disabling Zone Alarm, click the Restore button again and it should let you restore your ipod. After that is successful, you should get the choice to either restore the ipod from a backup or make it a 'new' ipod. Yeaaaahhh!!!!

I had the exact same problem. After trying and retrying several times to restore it I got no where. I kept getting error code 37...and it would keep telling me I needed to restore it. I went to another computer, downloaded iTunes and plugged my iPod up via USB. It worked! It updated to the new iOSv4 (although, I don't like it) and then restored it. I could then go back to my other computer, and put my apps/music/videos/photos back onto my iPod! I hope this helps!
