Error 37 after iOS 4 upgrade

I upgraded this morning to iOS4 on my second generation iTouch. After the download, the OS started installing on my device and right before the end it popped up error 37 and it said there was a error and I had to restore. After 5 restores it always stops with that message. My iTouch doesn't even turn on now, is downgrading my best option at this point?

I have the same problem. After trying 4 times of restoring my Ipod touch through iOS 4 upgrade via latest iTunes, it gave me the same message over and over - error 37. This error code doesn't even show in Apple's specific error code list.
I don't know what else to do with my iPod touch. It was working well having the previous version, but now, it's dead. To Apple: please help.

I have the same problem, but I had only one problem though when I had recovered, he did nothing when I was on the previous software after I had recovered.
Now I have him fixed because there is a new software version and now I get another error message (37) before the update: (1604,1601,6)
sorry if there are spelling problems, i speak dutch

Same problem here. My IPOD is now bricked, has a blank screen and won't even turn on.
The only sign of life is that windows still recognises the IPOD as a USB device but can't tell what it is, therefore won't install any drivers and the Itunes app cannot fix it.

The only help (apart from this forum) seems to be by paying Apple for support. Not likely when it is Apple that broke my IPOD in the first place.

To Apple: Your Software Bricked my IPOD!!! Therefore (as far as I am concerned) you have done one of two things wrong:
1) Your upgrade software has a very serious bug and has insufficiend checking and recovery mechanisms (this would be quite embarassing for you really).
2) You have sold people a product that does not behave in the correct fashion during uprade and have therefore sold people a product that is not fit for purpose (not as embarassing as 1 but up there pretty high).

I would seriously recommend one of 2 things

1) please tell us all how to get our bricked IPOD Touch's working
2) Tell us how we can get a replacement because obviously this is not an isolated incident.

In addition, although my own IPOD falls outside it's 1 Year Warranty (and your site says my technical supprt has expired) I still expect a FREE fix or replacement as this problem is nothing to do with me and everything to do with you.

I'm sure we are all waiting a reply with baited breath

I have the exact same problem. I've turned my firewall off, tried different computers and different operating system, tried re-installing itunes, tried older iphone OS and so on. But I get the same error (37) every time.

Tried talking with the support here in Denmark but he couldn't helped. He just referred to this discussion forum. 😟

Exactly the same here

I have my iPod Touch upgraded, the whole download process go well only theres a error window came out when everything finished. It said unknown error.

Now my iPod touch only have a black screen with iTunes icon and a USB icon on it. Each time I plugin the USB, my computer said theres a new hardware "Apple Mobile Device(Recovery Mode)". It tells me to install drivers but when it check the computer, it said theres no driver.

So now I am stuck with a BRICKED iPod Touch which cannot even downgrade, turn on, or recognise by iTunes.

Somebody please help.

I had the exact same problem as described by most users here in this thread. What fixed it for me was attaching my ipod touch to a friend's macbook, starting itunes and setting my ipod touch to DFU Mode (look for DFU Mode on youtube for instructions). After that I could restore my Ipod 🙂

By the way, my Ipod was bricked before this...so it did not do anything anymore.

Now iOS4 is running perfectly and I could even restore my backup from the itunes on my PC running Windows Vista.

Hope this helps!
