iOS 4
rePad, thanks so much for figuring this one out.
The problem: if you selected a bunch of PDFs and changed their Media Type to Book, they don't sync in iBook on your iOS device. You have to set them back to something else and then individually set them back to Media Type: Book
Set the PDFs back to something other than Media Type Book:
Now all the PDFs are in your music list
Those PDFs should show up under books AND they should sync now.
In iTunes, click on the "Books" link and make sure the ones you want to sync are CHECKED--that was the problem for me...:)
Same goes for me. iPhone 4 and iPad 2 will not let me sync via iTunes both ways. Used to work just fine a while ago.
If pdf is opened in "Mail" I can then see it in iBooks, but not in Pages.
Something is definitely wrong with PAGES :-(
When I go to the iTunes page the book box is not there, only audiobooks.
I had the same issue with pdfs not showing in IOS5 on an iPad. I had to Click on the "Collections" button and select "PDFs". Now they show.
umm..I had the same problem, briefly, and I tried something and it worked. Could be just lucky but well....its SO simple.
I was missing one file (in books on iTunes but wouldn't show up on iBooks). So I took the missing files in iTunes and dragged it into my iPhone, via the sidebar. It synced the file and its showing up now (wait let me check..yup still showing up). Try it out.
Though Apple should still address this, seems like over a year old problem.
This did the trick for me. The book that hadn't been showing in the Books tab of my iPod Touch section now appears. Thanks, elsattar!
Well this confirms everything I think about apple. After the iSO5 update to my iPad2 I can not view my books or PDFs no matter how many times I sync and how I sync, as soon as I eject the iPad they are not in there anymore. I have tried renaming the Media Type and renaming it back, won't work. The fact is I had the ability to read these purchased books and PDF's in iBooks before the update and now I can't. One thing I found was I am able to drop them into my iAnnotate app, through iTunes, that I use for taking notes while reading books and PDFs. I am still able to read them this way, if it wasn't for this app I would throw my iPad against a wall right now. The whole point of this is to read books. I have searched for help under the iBooks app... nothing... I will try to get a different app that does the same thing as iBooks and see if this makes a difference. Yes I have tried viewing books and PDF's there is nothing in either of them.
Same problem on iPad 2. Solved it by putting the pdf files into Dropbox. Then dowloaded the free app pdf-notes for the iPad. From the app you can download the pdf file from Dropbox. Perfect.
This solved the problem for me. Extra, unneeded work—but it fixed the issue.
As soon as I selected the PDF collection in iBooks on my iPad mini I finally saw the pdfs I had synced. Thanks for the tip (icarous I believe).
I was having the same issue... I found that you need to add them to the libary under 'File'. Once I did this they showed up under the books on my ipad. I then selected the files I wanted and then 'syncd' my iPad. They then showed up on my device. All Set...
