Yes. I am active duty Navy in Patuxent River, MD. As long as you can connect to wifi, facetime will work. My ship, the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN65) is scheduled for deployment late this year. Thats why I am so furious with this whole pre-order process. This has to be the worst in pre-order history.

That is what I was wondering too. I did ten years in the military and been to the gulf many many times. I didn't have an iphone then and my cell phone only came out when I was at home. I was wondering if it initiates normally using at&t then it must go to voip calling or something similar. Either way, pretty awesome.

No, it's over wifi. It uses a VOIP, like Skype (voice over internet). If you are on a call and want to switch to FaceTime, you can do so - if you're on wifi. However, to initiate a FaceTime call, you will also be able to do so through Contacts (which is what you'll do in your situation.)

Well hopefully this will work out for my wife and I. She knows how to put her iphone on wifi. Hopefully the ports we hit this year will have a better wifi signal at their locations. Dubai was the best as far as connnectivity.
