PDP Authentication error (after upgrading to OS 4)

We have recently tried to upgrade our Iphone 3Gs to use OS4. After doing so, we have been unable to access our custom APN (Telstra. **). It works fine on the previous Operating system.

We have used the Configuration Utility to set the settings for the device. (The same settings as we always have).

When trying to read email, i get the message "Could not activate cellular data network - PDP Authentication Failure"

Has anyone else had any similar issues or resolutions? Restarting the phone with/without the sim doesnt fix the issue

Any help would really be appreciated!!

I have Phoned Telstra Business support on last Friday (Sorry for the late reply, I went drinking as soon as i got off the phone from them) after spending 1.5 hours with them, on hold and retrying to get my mail/browse the net they have said it is an apple problem that they will have to co-ordinate getting fixed.

apparently there was meant to be an email to be sent out by them to people that use the telstra.corp APN telling us not to Update to OS4. I will attach the email once i get it, im still waiting on Telstra to address this.

On the plus side foronce im not angry with Telstra.

To be fair, as much as i want to scream "OMG its apples fault because it worked fine on my 3GS". There might be something additional that telstra is missing.

The guys in Telstra were pretty good with me and i was very keen to hold on the phone to try and get this working. They should be looking into this and I have the email address from the guy I was dealing with and he said he put a reminder in his calander to get back to me about it... im just not sure when.

There was a lot i dont understand, they wanted my BDSL lines and full national number etc but in the end i suppose we can only wait.

Your user needs a bit of a kick, cheeky bugger its not so easy to accidentally upgrade it, you have to select the device and click upgrade. I cant restore my current Iphone so ill enjoy it without the proxy settings for now.

I did find a site during the weekend detailing how to downgrade back to your old firmware (probably 3.1.3).

I don't know if it works and and if would cause any issues to your phone if you did use it as I haven't used it as my upgrade went without a hitch (smiles at my end), but have a look at the link and you can make your decision based on what you read and also how desperately you need your Telsta APN working.

By what you have said in these posts, Telstra knew there was a change in the firmware before os4 was released, but did not inform their customers of the changes they will need to make to their phones. Not sure how this is Apple fault.

Anyway have a look at this site and make a decision if you downgrade to get operational again.

For what it's worth, I found the old 3.1.3 firmware file in the Trash bin of my Mac when I search for the old file as described in the post.

I received this from Telstra

Save the configuration profile and edit as follows

OLD ONE BELOW
<key>apns</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>apn</key>
<string>test APN</string>
<key>password</key>
<data>
c3VwZXJwYXNz
d29yZA==
</data>
</dict>
</array>

NEW ONE BELOW
<key>apns</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>apn</key>
<string>test APN</string>
<key>password</key>
<string>
c3VwZXJwYXNz
d29yZA==
</string>
</dict>
</array>

basically changing from <key> to <string>

I am yet to test to have time to test it yet but thought I would post

Hi Mooman_Naylor

So are you saying that Telstra don't have a new config file for iOS4, or their new config file doesn't work?

Is every Telstra iphone customer that requires the APN settings in this boat or is your system a special setup for Telstra.

I don't if this helps anything. Apple have a configuration utility (you probably have already tried this) where you can manually set up and then I presume you send it to your phone.

I have an italian corporate SIM card, but face problems since i upgraded to OS 4.
First, the profile I had created with "iphone configuration tools" and installed with OS 3 (working OK), was like hidden after I upgraded to OS 4.
Then I restored to new to be sure to cancel the hidden profile, but when I could at last install the profile, I come out with ---->(PDP Authentication error).
I've been searching a solution for three weeks, and the news found here is the only one that makes sence, so when is apple going to release "iphone configuration tools" compatible with OS 4 ???

The only work around by now seems to be the downgrade to OS 3 which I do not want to DO........
Believe me I'm more than p **d off
If any of you have news please post them.
Thanks
