iOS 3.1.3 downgrade

I upgraded my newer model iPod Touch 2g (one of the MC models) to iOS 4 and I'm not exactly happy about it. It's not bad, I just want 3.1.3 back. I saved the original restore file from ~/library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates before I upgraded so it wouldn't be deleted by iTunes.

Now here comes the problem. I go to my iPod Touch in iTunes, and I option+click restore, then I select my 3.1.3 firmware, and start the process. iTunes puts the iPod into whatever special mode it uses and then I get an error, that "The iPod "iPod" cannot be restored. This device is not eligible for the requested build." Then it leaves my iPod in recovery mode, to which I can only restore iOS 4.

Now I know this works because I've used it before iOS 4 came out. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

EDIT: iTunes let me view the log file when asking if I could send the failure information to Apple. Here's what it gave me.

Just go off the phone with Apple tech support. The first person was helping me downgrade and suggested doing the msconfig trouble shooting on this article.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292

But then it didnt work and another tech person said that we are not meant to downgrade thats why we are getting that message. Honestly there must be a way to downgrade especially if you are having all kinds of issue with the iOS 4.

Please stop complaining. Yes, we know that iOS 4 has problems, yes we want to get rid of it. It will do no good to whine.

But does anyone know how to fix my problem?

On a side note, I've been getting an error that my iPod cannot be synced (both with my MC and MB model iPod Touches) because a file is missing. There is no number, but both iPods sync just fine. This started before iOS 4 and I pretty much ignored it because it's more of a nuisance than a problem.

Hi, I have a 2nd Gen 8GB touch which I was able to upgrade to 3.1.3 when that was released. I recently upgraded to IOS 4 which turned out to be crap. I tried various methods from some websites on downgrading back to 3.1.3. I thought I had bricked my ipod. I had to use another computer to restore it to 3.1.2. It now works but I can't get 3.1.3 up and running at all even when using 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com in the hosts file. I called apple and they said it's in the app store for $4. I don't know if she was misinformed or I just suck at searching but I can't find it.

Long story short I am having the same issue as the OP.

Apple has stopped signing all versions of the iOS family except for os 4.0. This means that you can't downgrade your firmware. The only way it would be possible if you saved SHSH blobs for the firmware you are trying to downgrade to. This would only be possible if you jailbroke your iPod Touch while you had 3.1.3 and you saved SHSH blobs for that version. Basically, its not possible to downgrade your iPod.
