iOS 3.1.3 downgrade

I upgraded my newer model iPod Touch 2g (one of the MC models) to iOS 4 and I'm not exactly happy about it. It's not bad, I just want 3.1.3 back. I saved the original restore file from ~/library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates before I upgraded so it wouldn't be deleted by iTunes.

Now here comes the problem. I go to my iPod Touch in iTunes, and I option+click restore, then I select my 3.1.3 firmware, and start the process. iTunes puts the iPod into whatever special mode it uses and then I get an error, that "The iPod "iPod" cannot be restored. This device is not eligible for the requested build." Then it leaves my iPod in recovery mode, to which I can only restore iOS 4.

Now I know this works because I've used it before iOS 4 came out. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

EDIT: iTunes let me view the log file when asking if I could send the failure information to Apple. Here's what it gave me.

Hi Hmalisa,

I basically followed this: http://www.redmondpie.com/downgrade-ios-4-iphone-3gs-3g-and-ipod-touch-to-iphone -3.1.3-3.1.2-how-to-guide/

But I didn't get it to work initially with 3.1.2 until I used another computer that I installed itunes on. I still can't get 3.1.3.
If you need the firmware get it here: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

Remember I have an ipod 2nd Gen 8GB not an iphone but you should still get it to work if you follow that link.

Best of luck
