I stand corrected. Apparently "delivery exception" means "at home, by your door waiting for you"! 🙂

For me last year, "Delivery exception" meant "Someone at UPS stole your iPhone 3GS. Prepare for weeks of **** trying to get Apple and AT&T to restore order on your account."

Thankfully Apple sent the i4 FedEx and I actually got it today!

So here's the latest. Delivery from Apple.com by FedEx was to be by 11:30am today. Waited all day - status changed to Delivery Exception for delivery the 24th (tomorrow)by 4:30pm. So I left home at 3:15 for an appt., and FedEx delivered at 3:30. My son had just gotten home, so all was well. However, that was his phone and I have to pick mine up at the Apple Store tomorrow. When I ordered, delivery option was not given. Just can't decide if I want to get up and go early or wait until early afternoon.

Yep, mine went down like that too.

Was supposed to deliver at 10:30 AM, waited and waited. Finally had to go back to work to go to a meeting so I left at 1:45 PM and stuck the signed release form on my door. Got the delivery exception at 1:57 PM with delivery date unknown and was sad. Got home later and saw I had a nice little package waiting for me and was no longer sad. Fedex tracking later added that delivery also occurred at 1:57 PM.

It is a federal offense to steal from the U S Mail, but not to steal from FedEx (despite "Federal" in its name)... Right? And if the theft occurs before it is even in the US? Maybe you have to call InterPol! Of course Apple or FedEx would pay for replacement, not you.
