Signal Strength / "No Service" Issues

I've had my iPhone 4 for a few hours now and the signal strength is all over the place. At least a third of the time, it's "Searching" or "No Service" and then (after 1-5 min) it jumps back to a perfect signal with all bars. My 3GS was working just fine in the same location this morning (4-5 bars).

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? (I realize this could be a local AT&T problem here in East TN...but I'm curious if others are seeing the same thing.)

I sure hope that IF the reception issues are here to stay, then a bumper should definitely come with the phone. In all reality, most people will be getting cases. I typically don't use a case as I like taking advantage of a thin design. The phone stays in my pocket along with nothing else. No scratches.

I may wait this out and take a look at the Droid X, it's a great time to wait. So many phones coming out.

gosh .. gizmodo is reporting this all over .. many many people are having the same issue .. network drops when you hold phone by sides .. i think its everyone who has this issue !!!! is this a design issue or a software issue ?? I am scared .. i have my iphone 4 coming on july14th and i think i am scared hearing this problem .. this is a very bad problem .. i always hold phone on sides.

Ridiculous to think holding the Phone is the issue....just use a headset and the problem is the same. Either a major defect in the hardware or an ATT issue....don't throw away your 3G model....what's the return policy?

Looks like I will be sticking with my 3GS for now until the iPhone 5 is released or might just make the switch to a Windows Phone 7 or Android phone.

I have "No Service" on 3G and 4 but have internet on both. Can't make calls on either. Anyone else have this prob?

Went ahead and ordered the black bumper before there's a run on them and it becomes back ordered. Ships in 5-7 days. I was thinking about getting one anyway, but still a bit depressing.

Also besides flaw on antenna by holding the phone there is a substancial weaker signal than 3GS! What a product launch dissapointment. Hope this gets resolved fast! Otherwise this new iphone 4 is useless...

If it doesn't work as a phone first and foremost, it's not much use to me. This thread sure makes me happy I've decided to keep my 3GS until next summer.

Actually, could you share how to reset them? I see where they are, but do you mean just turning 3G on and off?
