Signal Strength / "No Service" Issues

I've had my iPhone 4 for a few hours now and the signal strength is all over the place. At least a third of the time, it's "Searching" or "No Service" and then (after 1-5 min) it jumps back to a perfect signal with all bars. My 3GS was working just fine in the same location this morning (4-5 bars).

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? (I realize this could be a local AT&T problem here in East TN...but I'm curious if others are seeing the same thing.)

I have the same exact problem. The signal is all over...call quality has dropped and I am unable to talk clearly while holding the phone....even without touching the black lines on the sides.
Apple's response of getting a case for the iPhone is not reasonable. Cases are optional and are not mandatory purchases for iPhone users. Is Apple willing to give away free bumpers to iPhone 4 users?

Steve, please release a software fix (if this is a s/w issue) or recall lemon iPhones.

I am having the same problem, maybe if enough people complain they will give our free bumpers or fix the problem somehow. This ***** i called apple and they told me to reset my network settings, then they call AT&T to check if there is a tower down, AT&T lied to me and told me there was a tower down by my house and it takes a few days to get backup, but when i put my phone on the table it gets full bars.

APPLE YOU NEED TO FIX THIS ISSUE, EITHER BY SOFTWARE OR GIVE CUSTOMERS FREE BUMPER CASE.
