Sorry, forgot to add the "how to" part:

Sign out of either the app store or itunes by opening the app, going to the bottom of the page at the bottom left, and check the apple id. If its not yours, sign out and then sign back in. This was my solution, i had to sign out my dad and sign in using my moms apple id. After i did that, i started over and attempted to update the apps and it worked perfect - like it should.

Good luck!

I am currently in hospital, using an iPad 2. It took a month before I even realised I could get Internet access. It is a Cisco NAC Guest server and I managed to connect to it, no problem. After 4 weeks of only playing on Angry Birds, I obviously went straight to the app store and everything was working fine, downloaded no problem. At around midnight, I was playing Draw Something free with my girlfriend who was at home when I accidentally clicked on one of the ads at the bottom which directed me to the app store. 'ready to play the best game ever' or something along those lines it said, was just a slip of the finger and since then the problem started. I pressed the home button and went straight back into Draw Something, it loaded but would not refresh the games. I opened Safari and that was working fine. Then I tried the app store "cannot connect to iTunes store". I came onto the discussion boards and tried every 'solution' in order. The first one being sign out and then in again in the store settings. Signed out....and now I can't sign back in again. I have tried literally every solution listed including; reset all settings, reset network settings, holding down home and lock key to reset, links to app store through safari, trying to sign in from iTunes, iBooks, videos etc. but they all end in the same error message that I click and then the store closes itself. I have tried gestures whilst the error message is up to see if that does anything. I am currently doing a cloud back up and I may completely wipe the iPad and start from fresh but it's going to take a lot of time and I could be watching Sky Go or BBC iPlayer but instead I will be waiting around for this, plus with it being a public network I could lose connection and possibly lose everything. I have since deleted Draw Something but still with no change. I thought it could possibly be something to do with the network but when I connect my iPod touch to the network (which isn't easy as I have to walk to the other side of the ward) it connects to the iTunes store without a problem. I have also used iForgot, changed passwords, tried signing in with a different apple ID but nothing works. I could possibly get my parents to take it home and plug it into iTunes and try the updates but that means a few days of boredom and according to some people on here, even that didn't work. Can I have some suggestions on wether to fully restore my iPad from the cloud back up, it's about 2.3GB but I have no idea how long it will take. I don't want to ruin it and lose everything. Also is there any other theories I can try to fix this. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Tricky one. First, have you cleared Cookies and data in Settings\Safari - Clear cookies and history, and under advanced clear Website data. Check whilst doing this that Cookies is set to From Visited, Java is On and Block popups is On. Go to General in settings - Reset and click on Reset Network Settings again. When finished. Hold down the Power button until the red slider appears and power off with the slider. Wait about a minute, then power back on.

Is your issue resolved? Come back, regards, Ct

Thanks for the reply but still to no avail. I am thinking it must be something to do with the hospitals router side of things. My iPad let me on temporarily in the beginning but has since denied me access and has now just done the same with my iPod touch. It is restricted as it wouldnt let me onto sites like sickipedia so maybe that's causing my inability to access the iTunes store but I can't understand how it let me for a good few hours but then suddenly it didn't. Obviously there is no way I can reset the router so I may just have to sit it out until I'm out of here unless a full restore will fix the issue?

Thanks again

From what I can tell no, they printed me off the terms and conditions and there is nothing mentioned about data limits. I am still able to view iPlayer, Channel 4 on demand and all services like that which use countless bytes of data and I have no problem accessing those. I'm pretty sure now it is just blocked, even just tried to go on a scrabble helper website and it blocked me because it has game content. The service is usually for staff but they do allow long term patients access and obviously you don't want your hospital staff playing on games so I can understand the restrictions, just why let me on for half a day and then suddenly not. I was speaking to the father of another patient who has an iPhone 4S and he has been using the wifi for 5 days but has only now just been denied access to the iTunes store, but he is able to get on with 3G which has basically confirmed it to me. Thanks so much for your help but I feel I'm just gonna have to sit through this one til I get home. Cheers man

I tried everything in this thread with no joy...then breakthrough!

I checked what apps I had running on my IPad2, lo and behold...dozens that I had forgotten to close down.

I shut everything down, did a hard reset (home button + power button abt 10 secs) and it works fine.

I also logged out of store and logged back in again but suspect the apps were the issue...?!

Hope it helps someone.

I was having the same problems as many in this thread & I think that I tried every solution listed. I also spent some time on the phone with Apple and tried some of their resetting ideas. Still I kept getting the cannot connect to ITunes error message. At some point for reasons I cannot explain it started working, but then it stopped AGAIN! So just by chance, the error message had come up, I clicked OK and then I clicked on music at the bottom of the ITunes App. & IT WORKED!!! Everytime the error comes up I click OK and just keep going. I am sure this not how it is supposed to work, but at least it is working. Hope this helps someone.

First up, I'd like to say "thank god" for these communities. So many times the solution is best found in these forums than going and sepending money with a sol called it expert! However, strangely I didn't actually find the solution to the same problem of not connecting to iTunes from this forum - although that's probably only because I didn't get through all the posts before stumbling across a solution to this very frustrating problem. I too, like many others, just can not understand how something that so many rave about does not work for something so simple - but to to worry these things happen I guess.

This is what I did - and sorry if someone else already identified this as a solution and ive missed it - but instead of trying to click on the "categories" and "top charts" which keep coming up with "can not connect to iTunes" go to the "search" button in the top right of the screen and type in "top charts" and "search" and hey presto it goes in every time without a problem. Same for "categories" too - just type in "categories" and "search" and all works fine. Btw- if I still click the direct link buttons to these two areas they still don't work.

Not a proper solution really BUT it DOES WORK!!

I really hope this works for everyone, but if not then at least some people if it can reduce the levels of frustration that I've experienced.
