Happy you are making progress - dont forget the accreditation for solving problems at the right of this convo under LEGEND.

On a further note. Open iTunes on PC - Check under the Store Menu at top that you have Authorise this computer option confirmed and Home share option (Under the Advanced menu) also enabled - this will facilitate downloading, syncing, and sharing your media between devices on the same account. Plugin your device using usb and check our device is also authorised. To check Open the store menu option at left hand side to open the main store view. On the right are quick links. Select Account - sign in and check for authorised devices in the relavent section.

Error messages... Connect device by usb. open iTunes. right click on device when it appears and click Reset Warnings

Then open Edit\Preferences under the main Menu at top of page. go Advanced Tab and click on Reset Warnings in the bottom section of the tab window.

Under the same edit\Preferences - navigate to the Devices tab.

Make sure no tick is in the Prevent, ipods, iphones and ipads from syncing automatically check box.

Right click your device icon at left when finished and backup and resync.

Close itunes, disconnect your device.

Re-open iTunes afer about 30 seconds and check your device appears - it can take upto a minute or so depending on the number of PC services doing backgraound work at the time. your device should peep once as it detects iTunes is open, and a second time as it connects.

Your Store communication <handshake> is locked.

To clear you have to force the application onto the Application bar which you can see by using a four finger swipe up on the screen. The four finger swipe up gesture overrides any status and dialogue warnings on screen.

Try the four finger gesture first and see if you have the iPad settings available to you - if yes, tap it and go to General section - restrictions. locate the sliders for iTunes and Ping (ping will turn off with iTunes. Move the iTunes slider to Off.

Wait a few seconds, then slide iTunes back into the On position. Tap your home button to close, then use the four finger swipe to get at the Applications active bar. Press and hold any icon till they start to wiggle, then using the little icon that appears at the corner of each App thumbnail, tap on them until they all are cleared - you will find that the iTunes is one of them.

When you have finished you can then Press and hold the On/Off button to Power off with the red slider when it appears.

If the Settings icon is not visible to you simply tap the home button once and everything will revert to the home screen and you can access Settings as normal, then go to Restrictions and do the process of shutting off and turning iTunes back on to force it onto the Apps bar as outlined above. Switch off using the on/off button when finished using the red slider.

Next With your iPad switched off, Open iTunes on your PC. Open the iTunes Store page - at the right of the screen is the Links section. Locate and click on Account.

Sign in - if you cannot sign in - then come back here and tell me the process stopped at point A (This is so I know what the problem is)

If you are able to sign in OK, connect your iPad with the USB and switch on. It may or may not sync depending on your settings. When the icon for your device appears right click it and select Reset Warnings

Then using the Menu options at the top of the iTunes page on your PC navigate to the following Edit\Preferences - in the Advanced Preferences box that opens choose the Advanced tab. In that tab you will find the option to Reset all dialogue Warnings. Click on it.

Close out back to the iTunes store Account screen - it should still be active.

Right click on your iPad icon at the left hand side and select sync.

With everything now reset go to you iPad and see if you can open iTunes OK. If the message you got before re-appears come back here and say process stopped at point B.

Regards Ct

I should have added that when you click on the Store on the left hand menu, it may not open on the home page - in which case just click on the little home icon -looks like a little house - on the Store Menu along the top of the Store page. The Quick links section is available form the Store Home page.

Update: here it is a month later. Now it works, on the iPad2, which was the only one of my devices where the 'can't connect to iTunes stopre' problem just would not go away -- now I can connect to the app store and download wirelessly all pending app updates. I made no changes whatsoever. It just works now. Whatever change was made must have been made on the other end of the pipe.

I experienced the same issue today. Tried all the suggestions except resetting. Finally did a backup to iCloud and can now connect to the app and iTune stores. I had previously done backups to iTunes on my computer rather than iCloud. Have no idea if this is what "fixed" the issue but it worked immediately after the backup.

One other issue I had before getting the "cannot connect" was the app store did not recognize my password but everthing else did.

Well, I guess no one believes me when I say this seems like a total random issue and it is most likely on the "other" end and not with our devices.

What I mean is I experience this on and off, perhaps 1 out of 5 times I try to access the app store. All I have to do then is try few more times and I can get in. I'm not doing anything such as resetting, logging in and out, etc. All I'm doing is clicking on the app store icon and usually after about 3-4 times, I'm in.

This issue needs to be acknowledged and address by Apple. And I bet the fix is with either the App store software or the App store server side.

So, please stop wasting your time trying all these imaginary fixes. Instead, call, email or go to the Apple store and let them know this is an issue.

I am right with you on this. All of these ideas are just temporary work around and do not address the root cause. I tried most and they worked for a short while but the problem quickly returned and the 'fix' didn't work again. When you spend more time trying to make the thing work than its actually working properly you know there its a problem. Sadly Apple choose not to engage with their customers and treat them with contempt . I asked them on this thread but no reply. Best Apple product its the 14th day money back

I don't see the need to return my ipad because of this issue. I still like it even though this issue is annoying. But I realize no device is perfect. Of course, I'm coming from HP Touchpad and all it's strange behaviors so ipad is actually so much less hassle to make it work. I used to install all kinds of patches to make the Touchpad do certain simple things. So, yes, I'm happy with my ipad other than few little annoyances.

Make sure you are logged in with the correct apple id. I tried for hours to fix my parents ipad outdated apps and the problem was this:

My dad had signed in to itunes with my his apple id to play his songs from itunes. The ipad was left as is, basically with him still signed in. So when I went to update the apps it could 'not connect to itunes'. This is because the apps i was trying to update were downloaded using my moms apple id.

So what you have to do is either only have one apple id associated with your ipad, or be sure you are signed in with the proper apple id before trying to update, download, buy, etc...

I hope this solves your problems.
