I'm also having "can't connect to itunes" msg when I try to access the app store on my new ipad (3). So frustrating to have this issue on a brand new device.

Here's what I have tried so far:

1) Reset my apple ID pw to include capital letter and number.

2) Logged in and out numerous times.

3) Closed all open apps.

4) Reset all settings under general - reset. Then I set it up as new device. Didn't lose any apps or data, just had to sign in to all accounts again.

What I found out so far:

1) When I click on a link to an app (as in using the tell a friend feature in the app store then clicking on that app link from the email), sometimes it will take you straight to the app while other times it just opens the app store. It can also try to open the app store but all I see is the "loading.." and the app store does not open.

2) When I log out and in, or close all apps, then I can easily open the app store. This continues for a while until I have the issue again.

3) Strange as it sounds, once I opened the app store Iwas getting the "can't connect to itunes" message only when I clicked on the "top charts" or "categories" section of the app store. If I clicked the "featured" section, it was fine.

I've been using the app called "App Deals" which lists apps on sale. When I click a link to an app from this app, it always takes me to the app store but I get the "loading..." message and the app store won't open. I have to close it, then open it by clicking on the app store icon then search for the app manually.

I'm beginning to think this is iOS 5.1 related issue only related to ipad (possibly only the new ipad). I can access app store fine on my iphone 4S which is also on iOS 5.1.

Seems like a software glitch or the app store servers getting overloaded at times issue.

I can still access the app store by resorting to one of above methods but it gets very annoyting.

Ok I had this problem and think I know what's caused it and how it can be fixed.

It's a channel conflict on your router set up. For some reason iTunes needs to have a specific channel. So change your channel to auto from a specific channel or if this setting isn't available then choose another channel and retry til it works. This fixed it on the following tests.

iPad

iPad 2

iPhone 3

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4

iPhone 4s

So I'm assuming this is the cause of the problem for most people too.

My iPad could not connect to the iTunes/App store either but my iPhone did. I tried different solutions in this forum but they didn't work for me. Then I came upon a solution by chance. I launched the "Music" App on my iPad; clicked on "Store;" clicked on "iTunes U" at the bottom; clicked "View in the App Store". Amazingly, from that point on I could enter the App Store again! Hope this helps someone else.

I see all these suggestions that have worked for different people. What I'm guessing now is that the 'cannot connect to iTunes store' error message is probably happening due to the Apple app store server being overloaded. Which means these messages are pretty much random and that's why it makes it seem doing something (such as restarting the router, etc) can fix it. I still get this message but all I do now is wait a little bit and try again or close the App store app and try again and usually I can get in no problem.

So having read post after post on this subject, I remain convinced that there is clearly a fundamental problem.

That there is no consistent fix, and that Apple do not appear to be in any hurry to fix.

I tried most of these fiixes in my short period with my New iPad and yes they worked, for a very short while. So just when you thought you had cracked it, then bang, back came the problem, and there was no clue as to when it would clear, or what the next step was.

So frustrating that a great piece of kit is shackled in this way.

If I was convinced that Apple really were likely to get on top of this and get it fixed, I would get another one tomorrow straightaway.

So come on Apple - tells us why there is a problem, and when there will be a permanent and proper fix. I bet they don't.

Spending more time trying make something work, than having the thing work as it should is a pointless and frustrating exercise.
