Well I tried to restore my new Ipad as a last resort... Nothing but Error Code 14. Verified MD5 Checksum of the ipsw. It's not corrupt. Tried every USB port my pc has, nothing. Tried another PC... nothing...

Went to the Apple store, and they could not get it to work. Then they were gonna replace it, but they could not get the Verizon activation working. The "Apple Genius" actually gave me a phone, and told me to call verizon to get it activated and then went about helping other customers. 2 hours on the phone in the apple store on the phone with verizon they could not get the sim activated. I bailed, and went to the Verizon store that I purchased it from spent 20min waiting in the Lobby, get the new Ipad out.... Try to activate it... Same thing... They could not activate it... Now I have to go back to the store tomorrow which is 35mi away just to get this thing working that should of been working in the first place.

WHY DID THE ITUNES STORE HAVE TO STOP WORKING APPLE!!!! FFS!!!!!!

And another big thank you to apple; for you have allowed all my android tablet buddies at work to damage my ego and my spirit... thanks again... =(

I had the same issue with my new iPad today. The older iPads are working fine. I reset network connections, and also signed out of AppStore in settings/general and reestablished my wifi settings, and signed back into AppStore. Working great now.

I did download iTunes Upgrade 2 days ago on a different iPad. Don't know if the issue is anything to do with that.

>The last thing I did was redeem an Apple iTunes gift card. I don't know if that could have had anything to do with it?????

Interesting. My daughter did the same thing on her iPhone -- redeemed an iTunes gift card. She has had no problems with her iPhone. But the 'cannot connect to iTunes store' has happened on every other IOS device I have, since then. Somehow it went away, on all but my wife's iPad 2. They all share the same apple id. On the iPad 2, the only thing that worked was to use iTunes on the computer, download the latest updates there, or new apps that you have purchased, then physically sync to the computer.

It's so ridiculous that the Apple app that issues the 'cannot connect' error does not log a complete enough error rmessage for people to figure out what's going on.

I had a similar experience, with my iPad 3 and Verizon, not quite 2 hours, but at the end the same result. Go through bunch of useless crap (reboot, reset, etc etc), and sim was still not activated. Within a few hours after that, or maybe it was the next day I don't remember, it started working. I got the impression from all this that they were maybe just behind on setting their switches. Sort of understandable, given the context.

Just to update, I actually wound up having the 'cannot connect to iTunes store' problem on most of my other IOS 5.x devices, when attempting a wireless sync. And it's still happening on an iPad 2. A long time on the phone with multiple apple support people was no help in the end. The only way to sync new apps and app upgrades, is to use iTunes on the computer, and sync with the computer.

I had the same problem. Working initially for a few days, then unable to download/update apps on iPad (3rd gen, iOS 5.1) but working on iPhone (iOS 5.0.1) and MacBook. I managed to solve the problem when I signed into my Apple ID with a different email address. You can have multiple email addresses associated with the same Apple ID (managed on https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/). I was signed in with the previously nonfunctioning address with the other devices but it was working on those devices.

I brought this to the attention to Apple and they suggested I do a password reset. I am now able to sign in with the original email on all my devices and it is working. To note, my password prior to the reset did not have numbers and letters, capitalized and not as this seems to be a new rule for password creation with Apple than when I initially created the password. I can only guess this has something to do with the problem but this doesn't explain why it was working on the other devies.

I have had the same issue, I tried everything, I was curious as why it wasn't working under my personal id but worked on the exact same iPad under my fathers I'd. I reset password and it asked me to put my credit card security code in, I didn't have it on me so I cancelled. Still got same error. Found my card, put in security code and now it works! Guess you have to have a cc on file to even make free app purchases or the error will show.

I am having the exact same problem but only on one of my devices, my wife and I both have iPhone 4's and iPad's and my iPad is the only one having this problem. I have tried signing out, resetting network settings, soft reboot (hold down home+sleep button) and even updated my itunes store password using my mac desktop and nothing works. All of our devices are on the latest iOS. I have also tried it on three different WiFi networks so dont waste your time rebooting your router as others have suggested. I have no clue what is going on but this is so frustrating!! Someone please help.

I got it to work once. Don't know if it will work again if this happens again. I went into all the things that require that password: iBooks, Music and App Store. I made sure I was signed out in all those places. Did the home button/off button reboot, and when it came back up, I got in! Like I said, I have no idea if this will ever work again though...... Good luck!!!! Would love to know if it works for anybody else......

I had the same problem from 3 to 4 days ago after I decided to Wi-Fi sync, previously I have used only cable sync trough iTunes on my PC, the problem occurred on my iPad 2, meanwhile with my iPhone 4s I could access iTunes store without any problem. I tried the home/sleep button reboot and it didn't work, finally I made a backup and disabled Wi-Fi sync then I restored the iPad using this last backup and it is working fine now.

Somewhere in this forum I’ve read a suggestion about ejecting each device after syncing and before disconnecting it form iTunes, I guess it has something to do with this problem because as I remember on the last Wi-Fi sync on my iPad it lost connection and syncing process was interrupted.

I hope this helps you solving the problem.

UPDATE: After trying all of the recommendations listed above the only thing that finally worked was a full restore through iTunes. Very frustrating and time consuming restoring almost 30gb of data. On a positive note, I was able to first backup through iTunes and restore from that backup, which enabled me to keep all of my settings and most apps and data from what I can tell so far. Also, I haven't really seen anybody else mention this, but one thing I did notice was that my problems started off kind of simple and gradually got to the point where I wasn't to access the app and iTunes stores at all. The first thing I noticed was that when looking at an app in the app store the apps preview you normally see would only display half of the first preview page. Almost as if it had started to scroll itself to the next preview image on its own. That happened for a few weeks and then those previews stopped displaying at all. The next sign that something was wrong was that the app store would sporadically display the "cannot connect to iTunes store" message for a week or so until eventually I was unable to open it at all. Anyways, that was my experience, hope it helps someone.

Thank you JoezSS

This worked for me after trying EVERYTHING else...

This iPhone is one of my biggest 'regret' purchases. It's been a pain ever since I got it having ditched my original Android Google G1, which I know realise was awesome.

As soon as my contract ends, I am ditching Apple, they are actually pretty crap and uninspiring pieces of kit and I cannot wait to get back to Android.

Anyway, thanks once again, the full restore worked.
