iPhone 4 - camera is crashing constantly

Double click home - hold app (any) till shows circle red minus

close those running apps
Restart or Reset iphone

just a suggestion

doenst really apply if steps to reproduce the fault are:

1) do a full reset of the phone back to factory conditions

2) click on the camera app and watch it reboot

absolutely NOTHING else is running

Im having the same issue,

it appear to either stick at aperture, or lag. and switching between front & rear cameras seems to cause it to stick.

Occassionally when the HD recording does work, it is plagued by "static Lines"

Surely with this level if incidence it must be software related?

i think quite the opposite, if it were software most people would be seeing it

i think its a fault in the hardware, and the software doesnt know how to deal with it - so dies.

agree, its got to be hardware otherise a stock software restore to ios4 should eradicate the issue but it doesnt..

Out of interest...what are the serial numbers of your phones (for you guys experiencing the same issue as me) ..there may be a certain batch / week number that have the issue.. (just like the yellow tinting on the 27 inch imacs ! WHICH I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE MULTIPLE TIMES 😟 )..

apple built your phone 10 years ago ;)?

Well just off the phone to apple. They are sending out a replacement to me, and then I can return this one.

They say they have had a couple of calls, but not a massive amount.

the other call was probably me mate ! did they try to charge u £30 for the replacement?

They quoted delivery would probably be monday now....im not holding my breath...considerin the apparent shortages of handsets..

They tried, but were promptly told to the contrary.

I spoke to the supervisor, as I enquired about the shortage of handsets, and he "guaranteed" shipment tomorrow, as apparently they are not the retail packaged ones, and as such they have a stock off them.

Makes me think they were planning to need to replace some.

Ive used the advanced replacement service before and they just send u a black box with an iphone in it... whether it is new or not is another question.

I really dont hope they just send me a replacement that has already been sent back to them for having the "yellow screen" issue.

I talked with apple today and they had me try restore to original, hard reboot, restore on different computer (which I did on a Mac BookPro). To no suprise nothing worked. I think it is a hardware isssue and the software does not know what to do so it shuts down and reboots. They are sending me a replacement phone tommorrow. Hope it works. On a side note: Just a theory, what if AT&T's drop call issues are really Apple's issues and Apple is trying to fix it with this new antenna. It would explain why Apple is staying with AT&T and not going with Verizon. Just a Theory 🙂

I went to my local apple store and they took one look at it and handed me a new one. Problem solved!

Had the same problem all day. So bummed- tried reboot several times, no luck. Then tonight I remembered the new multitasking leaves apps open so I closed the camera app, then rebooted & now the camera & video xam & FaceTime all working!!!

Let's hope they have enough in stock to replenish the faulty units. It is just very odd. I only have issues with the front facing camera. It only freezes when I try to flip the camera. It worked the very first time and then crashed. I would hope it's only a software issue but it's making me think that it's hardware. Who knows...we'll see if the Apple Genius ER can bring it back to life.
